Hi, has anyone been to Maldives before? Be going soon in April, hope I will not be spending the whole day reading at the beach.

So it will be helpful if you can kindly share your experience on:
1) beach activities / water activities?
2) tourist spots?
2) shopping?
3) local food? seafood?
4) to do / not to do?
Thanks.

Hi pinkdevil,
I've been to the Maldives a couple years ago and it's a great place to relax and read on the beach. This is not a party destination (you'll be better off in Phuket or Bali for that) more a honeymooner one.
1) beach activities / water activities?
you have a bit of everything available. A few hotels have greast snorkeling and diving. Some offer sailing
2) tourist spots?
not many, most of the hotels occupy a whole island and you can't travel freely from island to island. The only way to do this is to take a cruise package that hops from island to island.
2) shopping?
Only in Male, otherwise it's within the hotel
3) local food? seafood?
a lot of seafood. most of the chefs in hotels are coming from sri lanka but are cooking all types of food.
4) to do / not to do?
this is a muslim country but within the hotels it's just like any resort in the world. If you go to Male, women need to make sure not to dress "provocatively" (according to muslim rule), shorts and t-shirt will be OK, no swimsuit.
Hope that helps, enjoy your trip

not the place for party goers, Male only place to really shop, then to not really worth the effort. The hotel activities are expensive but good and really just chill out on the beach and enjoy the tropical fish and cusine
in short its meant for couples
