What about the original question ?

I agree wholeheartedly about coming here with an open mind, but I believe question was probably genuinely asking around more practical things such as things you should bring, cost of living, choosing right place to live the first time, transportation, dealing with schools, the heat . . . and all the positives too :D

I am sure it is a qustion on the minds of many people moving to Singapore.

If you are renting a flat get one with a balcony, even if it is small, some outside space is a mind saver, specially when the rains come. Windows won't cut it.

If you are not going to have a car, be sure to get somewhere close to your work or good bus connections.

This advice I wish I had although it didn't affect our decision is, Singapore is a completely modern city, and when they tell you the ocean is really rubbish it is, well not completely rubbish but not like something you make an effort to go and swim in or lay on the beach unless you are in the area.
