CA to Singapore: Advice Needed

Post by ca_transplant » Sun, 18 Feb 2007 10:34 am

Dear Board:

I've been reading this forum quite a bit recently since i have a proposed move from northern california to singapore upcoming. Have a few specific questions regarding the move.

1. Would $4000 (singapore dollars) get me a nice 1-bedroom condo near the central business district? Would like to be close to a MRT station and have the amenties that seem to be included with the condos i've seen here.
2.If I rent a 'furnished condo' can i really move in with two suitcases? Is the kitchen also furnished (dishes, etc.)
3. How much should i budget for utilities (I've heard that AC really drives this cost up)
4. Cable and Internet monthly costs?

Any other hidden costs that are signifigantly higher than the states? I'm in the middle of my negotiations and would like to get as much as possible covered in the contract. :)

Thanks in advance for your advice!

SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers
