Prices for International Schools?

Post by lstrike » Thu, 15 Feb 2007 11:19 pm

Hi,

I have several questions about schooling and after school activities in Singapore.

Q1. I have a boy who will be in 9years old in November, and would like to know how much it will cost to send him to school (International preferabably) which will also have ESL, as he does not speak English at all?

Q2. How much are extra curricular activites after school, say like Tae Kwon Do (Martial Arts), as my boy is nearing his Black Belt, and would like him to continue once he gets to Singapore?

Dear Sir,

Happy Lunar to you! May Prosperity and Wealth fall on you this year!

MOST International Schools offer ESL programs. As most International Schools commence their Academic Year in August, it is advisable for you to put him into an International School now so that he can carry on in the prefably the same grade that he has just completed. This can act as a refresher program for him as well as let him get accustomed to English being a medium in school.

Alternatively, you could enroll him into a pure English course from now till August, so he can start the new Academic term with the knowledge of the English Language.

Of course there are many other International Schools and Language Schools available for your consideration. Please do take a look around so that you have more options for consideration. Also, take your son to check out the schools to see if he is comfortable studying in it.

As for after school activities, not many schools offer Martial Arts related activities here in Singapore. :???: However, there are community clubs as well as Country Clubs that offer such activities within the vacinity of your home.

Cheers,
Jeremy

I am in a similar situation. My son is 9 years old and is to come to Singapore in June. Not speaking English (we are from Russia) and is fond of karate and swimming. I haven't selected a school for him yet, as myself is coming to Singapore in the end of March.

Maybe nobody knows the prices for the various International Schools. I see on another thread you have been having problems getting the same information directly from the schools.

A lot of people are very lucky and have their fees paid by their company and have nothing to do with the pricing.

I can only suggest the OP rings the schools direct to get an idea of prices and availability for schooling.

Actually, only ONE school failed to answer my query by email and that was Dover Court.

I think there are much fewer companies now who pay tuitions than in past years, but that's just based on other threads I've read.

It's not nearly as convenient to call when you've not arrived in country yet. Of course, if someone's in country they shouldn't hesitate to call but until they are. it's not too much to ask for the school admissions people to do their jobs and respond to email.

Here's what I know as far as yearly tuition pricing for 7th grade:

Dover Prep - $19,700 per year
ERIS - $15,000 per year
ISS - $17,000 per year
SAS - $22,000 per year plus several thousand dollars in fees
Chatworth, Orchard campus - $17,500 per year

Prices are TUITION ONLY and do not include application fees, ESL fees, facilities fees and so forth, so on. Several of the International Schools have their fee schedules on their site...click admissions. Enjoy...
