msfifi wrote:thank god i managed to reach the venue at around 8.30am. even then there was already a long queue. my first time trying, and I already feel so demoralised when I didn't make it pass the kebaya round. i think i got booted out coz when they took my height, i was only standing at 1.56m, and i was walking really fast during the catwalk. i'm not really sure what they are looking for at that stage though - posture? grace? skin?

only 4 managed to get through to the next round.. to tell you the truth, the girls were tall, skinny.. and they kinda walked funny and were stiff with pimples on their faces.. in my opinion. i felt only one of them deserved it. (and don't let people telling you that you have that SQ look, and that you will "confirm get through" get to your head)

during the first round, the interviewers told us to introduce ourselves, and tell them about our hobbies. my heart was beating super fast, i felt like i could faint! some of the girls went slightly out of point, i mean, we were asked about hobbies and yet they rambled on about working in flowershops and speaking in jap to customers, yada yada. if they wanted to know about our working experiences, they would've asked, right? so my advice is to keep it short and sweet and stick to the topic you're given. (i even told them about me reading harry potter books! gasp!)

overall, it was a great experience, but it would've been TONS better if i got through.. sob sob. (:
hey girl,

i suffer the same fate as you did! gees. i was measured 156.8cm. i knew there and then tt i wasn't going to make it. :? then again, i'm glad i made it pass round 1 at least. :)

Honestly, I'm really happie I made it through, it being my first time trying...

This is reallllllllllllllly gonna be a very long post. I'm warning all readers out there. Read at your risk!!! :D

I reached there at about 1030am. There was already a long queue.
After Registering, we were made to sit in this really big ballroom and watch a video clip. It was really really interesting!!

The 2 most Catching sentences the clip had were "This sign(SQ logo) is so familiar. Now you want to be one of us. Do you have what it takes?"
They kept stressing the 2nd line. Haha...
The clip was really interesting!! :)

Then this man called out our names and made us line up & sit according to our groups. He was really amused with my name. I'm the girl who is Thai.

He kept trying to speak to me in Thai. He's really a nice man. =) Tried to calm all of us down with his jokes.

The most happie thing today, besides having passed all, is that i made 3 frens!! They were really nice & we kinda supported each other all the way.. Me being the main encourager & motivator, My new frens were so convinced that they would fail. Sigh.

After what seemed hours, we finally entered the room. The funny thing is, I was the 1st to sit!! Everyone else around me was standing & waiting for the 2 interviewers to ask us to sit. I was so shocked and I stood up immediately & said Opps. HAHA. :)

We were just asked to give an introduction and maybe our hobbies. They scrutinised us from head to toe when we presented. They Way we speak, eye contact & posture were VERY IMPT. My group told me I was very loud and they thought my speech was really good. My speech was the longest. Think I took 3 mins. :D I greeted the 2 interviewers & then the rest of the ladies. Somehow after me, everyone else did the same. So perhaps don't just give a general greeting. Direct your greetings. :)

We were then told to wait somewhere outside and another lady called out those who got through. I was the youngest in my group, 18. There was another girl who is the same race as me, Thai chinese & who didn't make it. Sigh. Thought she'll do ok.

Wonderfully, my 3 NEw frens got in with me!! So basically only 4 of us from our group.. We went to register for the Kebaya round then we were told to go for lunch & come back at 1.20pm. Guess there were only about 150-240 girls who made it through to the Kebaya round.

After lunch we came back to once again have another round of waiting & waiting..... But time is always good when u have the company of frens... :D

There were alot of Poly grads today because SIA went to their schools during their career fair. So anyway, into the Kebaya round we went.... Shoes off, all jewellery off, hair up. On the weighing machine u go and both weight and height taken. Alright, I didnt even know that I lost weight....... :? Then you wait to try a Kebaya.

Lucky for me, the first skirt I took fit me. But its really gotta be worn at the waist. Haha. I'm a hip gurl. I wear my skirts at the hip & all. Never at the waist. haha... :)

The first top I took was a little big so i exchanged it for a smaller one. Girls were stripping everywhere and even though there were partitions, we were just standing around & not behind them.. HAHA.
So when they change out, they just leave it on the floor & u just take. HAHA.

Oh ya, slightly endowed girls, good luck in finding a top. U need really bigger ones. BAsically the tummy isn't really a prob, i think, only the boobs may be a prob.. If u're a B cup, Its ok. MAybe C & above, u gotta find more carefully.

My top was really tight at the waist area.. The whole thing really accentuated my waist and all. I wanted to change into another but all the gurls insisted that it ws PURRfect, tight & sexy so I didn't change out. OMG. They are so funny.

Then we queued Up in a line, waited for the lady to call our name. There was something I figured out during this round. You see, we had to walk towards the lady and back and back again. She looks at u from head to toe. POSTURE SUPER SUPER impt.
After which, she will give u a tray to hold & she'll prob ask u to turn around or walk with it. There were a few girls whose back bone & spine weren't that straight & they were eliminated.

Even though this was the Kebaya round, I would divide it into 2 parts. The walk and the skin check.

You see, some girls were asked to change out of the Kebaya after their walk while some were asked to stand at a corner and wait for the skin check. What i figured out was that If your walk couldn't make it, U WILL BE ELIMINATED. U're not even going for the skin check. They'll say "Thank you, please change out of the Kebaya." It was really sad to see those go and change. they weren't even sure why they were not asked to go to the corner for the skin check. Sigh.

Anyway, 1 of my new frens didnt make it pass the walk. Her backbone. Sigh.. Was so sad for her.
Only the 3 of us got through. The 'walk' interviewer spoke to me. Asked how old I am. I said "18" & I smiled. She asked if I intend to do anymore studying & i smiled and said "No".
Obviously!! If not I wouldnt be here for the interview!!

After afew turns, she said Thank you & i thought I didn't make it. Then she said "please go over there for the skin check" PHEW!!!
The LAncome Beautician was engaging me in conversation about my name..
Afterawhile she said "I'm sorry but I will have to examine u a lil more closely".... Oh man. The way she said was so funny & cute!!!

Head Turn Left, Head turn right & turn to the back. The spot lights were really bright. They were on the left and right. We can't look anywhere else except straight or it'd hurt out eyes. :)

So its tym to know the results. Those who couldn't pass the walk was, i am right, eliminated. Only bout 3-4 from each group made it. Only My remaining 2 new friends & i got through.

After this, there isn't much waiting anymore. Basically there isn't many ppl left so waiting for the 1-1 interview took about 15mins only.
Looking around, only about, AT MOST 55 girls!??!

My 1-1 was really fun. The interviewer at first asked about my unique name. Haha.. as usual. Then She asked "Are u sure u want this job?" I carried on talking alot & alot........... Prob spoke about other Qns that she may or would have asked later on...

She was writing a couple of stuff which i could have seen but did not due to my dry contact lenses. After a Long while she asked me to describe myself then asked me a little about my working experiences..

She will basically look through your application form and ask u questions from there. I stay Just opposite the SIA training centre..

She saw my address And said "So u stay in....."? "Yup" "hmm, thats very near to our training centre. ARE u GONNA BE LATE?"

I was thinking, Hmm, does that mean I'm in? Haha.. :D
Then she said I was really Young and stuff. KEpt askin me if i'm sure that this is what i want to do. She also asked if I've a boyfriend. HAHA.

I told her "YES YES!! I really want this!! blah blah.." And she said i wasreally enthusisatic" :)

Then I was asked to read a passage. When I was done I looked up. She was still scribbling stuff, thinkin about some stuff...

After eternity, she looked up at me, heaved a huge sigh & said with a smile "You know what? I'm going to let u pass through this round".
I exclaimed in delight!

She said sometimes Age may be a barrier. She said all I have to do is turn 19!!! Well, I will in AUGust!! :D

My 2 frens were waiting for me outside. I took about 20-25 mins in there. YES, long, I know... I dreaded hearing their outcome. They didnt make it.. Sigh.. But they were really happie for me & all. I really wished they made it.

If I'm not wrong, after my interview at about 4, only 20 names were down for the swim. We had to write our particulars down on a form. I was the 20th girl. :)

I got the swimming form & was approached by the man who was calling out names to arrange us for the group interview.

HE was really nice. Fatherly sort of way. He told me he knew I would make it. Oh wells. I told him that the lady said I am very young. HE kept telling me no prob, don't worry & stuff. He also said that even if u're too young, they'll keep u and when u're 19 they'll call u back. U do not need to go thru the interviews anymore. haha.

After that, i realize he is prob quite an important man. Cuz he told me "Don't worry, I'll see u Next friday at the Training centre!" I think he's either a trainer or some in-charge. & i'm shocked that he remembers me. Hmm..

Today's been a really exciting day.. Being my 1st tym trying, I think I did ok. I hope I'll do well for the many more interviews coming..

I feel u really have to be natural. Don't prepare a long speech, don't memorize. Just plan roughly in mind. When the time comes, paint a picture in your mind. Remain calm, talk to them like they are your friends or teachers. Not like a stranger. Everything will come naturally.

Only when u are natural & comfortable with yourself can OTHERS see u that way.... :D

Congrats to all that made it & never give up to those who really want this job.

Intrinsic Dreamer,

Could u like reveal briefly on the details of your speech to us?
As i thought i did pretty well
but ended up being booted up during the first round.
Which was very very demoralizing for me!
I thought i could really do it!
As i really did prepare >.<
I hope it aint due to my age cuz i've yet to turn 18.
Sighs. Bad day for me!

Thanks sweetheart~

Still, congrats to those who managed to pass through all rounds!
All the best!

Intrinsic Dreamer, Congrats to you. see? its always like this.. when you ask whoever that got through the interviews, they would tell you to just be yourself. :) Nothing much more to it, you dont need to have a very interesting background to impress, or superb working experiences, or a supermodel body [-X etc etc.. well, its gd if you have those, but its not what they are looking for.
Ultimately, u need to have a very friendly attitude, very positive(cheer up those that didnt make it this time), and the right mindset as to the job. They want to see the natural you, afterall, its the Singapore girl.

And for those that didnt make it ths time, there's always next time.. remember! be positive!!

hey Intrinsic Dreamer is sure excited. Well congratulations!

seems that the killer round this time is 1 to 1 interview... it didnt use to be so difficult... the impression was that if you got through the kebaya round, you are also prolly through to the swim round unless you screw up the interview very badly. The interviewers this time round could be more critical and strict.
