Temporary accomodation for one 30 something bloke -

Post by Deefa » Mon, 12 Feb 2007 11:12 pm

As i have mentioned on a few other threads here, am in the final throws of getting my PR (fingers crossed, touch wood, salt, black cats etc) and am trying to get all my "ducks in line" as it were for D-Day.

As i will be contracting at my first Singa job, I am not getting a great deal of support from the employers. (they have given me access to all thier relocation contacts etc, but naturally I am having to foot the bill, and for a DIY job, some bits can be a tad pricy)

As i will be here a few months before the wife and our goods and chattles, i was wondering if anyone could recomend any affordable temporary accomodation / diggs (1 room and a toilet sort of thing) that i could use as temporary accomodation until i get a more long term roof over my head?

recon on about $1000 / 1,500 a month. is that possible?

For that money, depending on the area, you could get an HDB 4 room flat or better. I have just let out an entire EA for $1400 albeit on a one year lease. You might have to pay a little more to rent on a monthly basis, but you should have change out of $1500. If you just want a room, you can pick one up for $400. If you insist on a condo, you will naturally pay a lot more.

Cheers for the info.

All i am after is a room with a bed, shower and bog.

Basically i will be living out of a suitcase for the 6 - 8 weeks it will take the wife to get everything packed and shipped, and i am just after somewhere that i can stay for that time, rather than knock up a hotel bill that will bankrupt me.

Ideally i want something where bills are included as i dont want to go through all that hassle for 2 months, then start again when i move into home.

I could stay with the OutLaws, but not too keen on that for many reasons.

1 - they are out in Tampines
2 - dont fancy being on my own with the outlaws
3 - yes i am a coward :D

I should have mentioned that I live in Tampines which is a great place to live even though pockets are infested with outlaws.

Depending on the area you prefer, you can pick up an HDB master bedroom for $500+ per month. The test should be where your work will be and how best to travel to it. If work is close to an MRT station, commuting is quick and easy from the "outlying" areas. Every station nearer the end of the line will save you rent and give you more choice on the accommodation. If a bus is going to be the best public transport option, you need to find somewhere along the route. However, sharing accommodation with strangers is always a risk and you may find that the Outlaws as the "Devil you know" are the better bet for a few weeks (even in an ooloo place like Tampines).

I lived in Tampines also (left 7 years ago) ... so have done the close proximity to outlaws once already !!

Did the HDB thing that time around, (street 32, so a bus and an MRT to the CBD) was not a problem, but have decided that we are earning enough to do the condo thing this time!

Amases me how much Tampinese changes each time i go back! Its becoming a very popular place!

Mind you, Now't wrong with an HDB room for a month or two. do people let them out for such short periods?

"Do people let them out for such short periods?"

It depends on the area and the level of demand but there should be little problem in finding a master bedroom for a limited period. When a room has been standing empty for a while, ppl will willingly do a deal to tide themselves over.

You'll have better luck at the Classifieds Section, there are quite a few short term rentals, just browse around.

Renting a room

Post by abliss1971 » Tue, 03 Apr 2007 8:27 pm

Have a look at www.nextroommate.com & follow links to singapore. There a few room rentals within your budget on there.

Good luck
