You see, this is the problem with the 'modern' view of Christianity.
a) God is out there (somewhere).
b) God created the world as something separate from itself.
c) You toil now and follow a brand of ethics and moralism now so that you get something later.
Yet, the teachings of Jesus run contrary to these thoughts and much more closely follow the tenets of Buddhism.
a) God is not out there, God is here, now in the midst of everything. But, to avoid the numerous perjorative connotations of 'God' let us refer to this thing, this being, as 'Spirit' or 'The One'.
b) The world is a manifestation of The One. The One did not create the universe, the universe is The One and The One is the universe. The physical reality that is our universe is a manifestation of the unmanifested.
c) 'Heaven' is achieved in the here and now not in the future. 'Heaven' is connectedness with The One in the here and now.
