China's social problems getting worse?

Post by kakarukeys » Tue, 23 Jan 2007 1:02 pm

They may call themselves socialists with China characteristics, but they are actually capitalist economy with one-party administration. Social problems come while they are rapidly developing.

in past 3 years, saw many news like terrible AIDS outbreak (all people in a village infected by AIDS, local government has no idea how to deal with it), food poisoning due to criminal negligence (milk powder poisoned went unchecked and was sold causing hundreds of baby poisoned), Pollution of rivers by factories ignoring environmental rules causing rise in Cancer patients, etc, Plagiarism in academic field / IT Piracy are common, human right conditions not yet improved.

A little perspective here: any of China's problems now are nothing compared to what they endured during the Great Leap Forward, the Three Years of (Man-Made) Natural Disasters, the Cultural Revolution, etc. Mao's body count is probably higher than Stalin and Hitler combined.

There is going to be more social issues that are covered up.

I do not know about you, but when my Jap wife said she is afraid to go to singapore because of the drug-death issue, I said to her I am more afraid of speaking or blogging against the Chinese govt online.

Have you guys noticed that chinese bloggers or reporters went missing in China and Hong Kong? Or the chinese govt aggressively stopping an old AIDS activist from receiving an awards in New York? Apparently there is an online police or somthing that monitor every single event on the internet.
