Anyone in FnB/Hospitality? Or any Russians based in SG?

Post by krispies » Sun, 14 Jan 2007 2:44 pm

Hi,

My Russian friend is keen to move to Singapore after hearing from me how great Singapore is bla bla... :)

Anyway, she made a trip here last year and stayed here for a month hoping to secure job interviews. She went to a couple of meetings (not interviews) with some top hotels but none offered her anything.

She even contacted a few head hunters. Head hunters were keen to help her until they learned that she is Russian. So, I'm just wondering, are Russians not welcomed in Singapore at all? I feel bad for painting such a good image of Singapore to her, got her all excited and then got her slap in the face when she came down here.

I'd love to hear back from you if you or your friends experienced similar treatment.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Hi,

Anyone are welcome in Singapore, but as a foreigner, need to spend more time and effort to get a job. You may ask your friend to try travel agency or contact Russia embassy for advice? Sorry couldn't help much, I'm personally not in F&B industry but in IT and I'm Russian with Singapore PR.

All the best and good luck :)

Hi,

I have no russian friends but I'll be quite surprised if there is any bad feeling against russian people from Singaporean people. Singapore is quite open minded with foreigners, however, it's really hard to find a job when you're a foreigner.

Maybe she should try to contact russian embassy, russian companies, of course, Russian people will be more willing to hire a russian personne.

Thanks Jenya and Stougard for the advice. I would think the last resort will be knocking on Russian Embassy's door.
