Free Wireless in Singapore

Anyone tried that? Is it really nice, free, fully sponsored by the government?

Yes, but you need to register with those companies using your full NRIC name and all your particulars to prevent network misuse. :P

Actually, the only thing you need is a SIM card from anywhere in the world that can be used to receive the activation code...

Hi,

When I was last in Singapore, all the McDs had free WiFi. What kind of coverage does this network have? Thanks. How would a sim card help?

NoBob.

it is quite effective if you are around the wireless zone. the registration only took around 5 mins and not a hassle.

Can somebody just simply tell me where to register?

I was in SG last week to prepare my relocation but had no idea how to get information on registering. I know i can get a code via SMS to my overseas mobile but there was nothing tell me what i had to do to get it?

Can somebody elighten me?

I was sitting in my hotel with a bundle of wireless networks available but none would work. They were either hotel or businesses yet i was in Robertson Quay so i suppose within the wireless area.

1] u can go to this website to apply for a uid/pwd for wireless@sg
http://myad1.singnet.com.sg/wireless@sg ... 9796520582

2] then go to any hotspots in singapore with the SSID wireless@sg

3] power up ur web browser to launch the wireless@sg login page.

4] use ur wireless@sg uid/pwd to surf for free at selected hotspots for 3 years.

Hi,

Rasserie, thanks for the details. I have a skype id as you must have guessed, because it's cheap and easy to use. And above all I can call my family for the price of just $29.95, the whole year. Do you use skype. I hope you also use skype.

I hope they register non residents too.

If you would like to know more about skype or start using skype this is the link to their webite

Well the point was i was in a hotel in SG a week or two ago looking for the wireless connection i had heard of. Currently i am in our Malaysia office but relocate today to SG. If i had known beforehand of the need to register before going out looking for wireless then it would have been fine but the way it was initially reported was that anybody could just get a user ID via SMS, even foreigners / tourists.

This would then give a connection.

Obviously now that i know, it's not difficult, just different from the way i read it in the papers.
