queries

Post by jentay11 » Wed, 20 Dec 2006 11:27 pm

hi everybody,

i'm new here. I like to clear some doubts regarding the requirements to be a sq girl.

1) Is it true that a degree holder has a greater advantage in getting a job compared to someone less educational qualified?

2) Do they dislike tall girls? Because i see many sq girls who are shorter than me.

3) i'm 170cm tall and about 58kg. i'm still trying hard to shed some more pounds before i go for the interview in 3 years time. Because i'm still pursuing my degree. sigh. But what weight is considered ideal given my height? i have a friend who is really skinny but seriously pretty. Do i have to be that bony like her?

can someone please clear my doubts so that i can set a target to help me gear better for the stringent selection process. Thanks so much and ur help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi!
As compared to more experinced seniors you see in all other topics,I'm as new as you! Anyway,I'll just share my opinions.

1. Not sure if it's applied everywhere, for sure Indonesian girls should possess Bachelor degree.I know one girl was sent home on her 3rd interviews when interviewers found that she only hold Higher Diploma...

2. Tall girl? :)) I'm even taller than you,and yes...felt a bit disheartened when I went for the interview, but just stay confident,be yourself and I don't think they won't dislike tall girls.Instead I think, with your height, you will appear outstanding in the middle of other girls.Just be confident...

3. Maybe you've read some other adv given by the seniors, that what it takes is not only pretty faces, you need to have what they looking for...customer service oriented,friendly,etc...I think ur just ok.Curvy figure in kebaya is what they looking for.One of the blog I read mentioned too skinny girls were rejected because they don't look good in kebaya. But adv given by my interviewer was that SQ girls need to stay in shape, should your kebaya suddenly appear too tight for you, you'll be sent to trainings again....

hi there

actually according to my opinion, i dont think there is an ideal SG girl. but just so long as you look healthy. You can check this accurately thru measuing out via your BMI. I think you take your height for example i am 54kg and my height is 163cm. Just take 54x54 / 163, you will get a number which will fall into a range which tells you where u stand. try that. I thnk the Singapore Ministry of edu or health site has the BMI measurements. But of cos you yourself know what is crucial on your part. You might feel 58kg is too fat or heavy but I am sure you can judge whether you are slim enough to carry yourself off to represent the SIA brand. If not pls lose a little weight to look better as First Impression always count.

Not all SIA gals are pretty to me, Some are just normal or not even pretty at all but they can carry themselves confidently and thats the most important i guess.

SIA does pay Degree holders slight more than the diploma holders and I am sure any employer would trust that a higher Qualified individual is much more matured when compared to the rest. Hence you have an advantage if you apply as a degree holder but no worries as they do recruit ppl with only Diplomas on case to case basis..

I think they dont need Tall Model looking gals to serve in their cabins. Most normal SIA gals are abt 165cm which is an very Okay height for the Ideal SG gal.

anyway may i ask how old you are?

Thanks so much for all the advice. Really appreciate all the efforts.

By the way, i have a friend who joins SIA on her first attempt and she is really pretty. Good complexion; tall and slim. Thus, this makes me have the idea that all sq gal must be of that standard. sigh. Anyway, my priority now is to get my degree first before even considering going for the interview. haha. Thanks once again.

Thanks corines143 for ur helpful advice. I have seen your message in many other forum subjects too and i appreciate all the encouragements and useful informations that u have given. From that, i can somehow imagine u as someone with fine personality. haha.

Though my BMI falls in the healthy range but i still feel that there are more to be done. I'm 19 years old this year, year one undergraduate. Exactly 2.5 more years to graduation. And that'll be the time i will be prepared to go for the interview. I will just make use of this 2 years to get myself prepared yea. Hopefully, i can reach my ideal figure.

By the way, i still have the feeling that SIA prefers shorties cos many of them hardly hit 1.7m. It will be weird if i'm the only one that is so tall right? haha. Also, i thought everyone starts from the scratch when u join the career. No matter u are degree holder or not. Anyway, salary wise is not my main concern cos it's always my passion to travel around the world. I get the degree for long term insurance cos air stewardess has a short working life span. sigh. Thus, i will study hard now and at the same time, know more about this job.

Thanks corines143.
u rocks!!!

No. I know some girls who have braces.
But they will asked when will your braces be taken out?
Just make sure that your braces will be taken out before they commence training.
- That's from my point of view. ;)
