Nice place near aussie school

Just wondering whether it is possible to live within walking distance of australian school...or is it too humid to walk outside anyway ? We have 4 small boys...very active...and am not sure a condo is our answer. I feel we need a backyard...can't imagine living in a high rise condo. I am also pretty particular and like nice, pretty new and green leafy places. Any ideas ? Will $5000/month cover this? We might be coming as early as January and I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
