American with Question About passport Renewal and Visas

Post by MikeHS » Fri, 08 Dec 2006 5:40 pm

Greetings

I am an American presently living in Taiwan. It is almost certain I will move to Singapore just after the New Year. Taiwan is my first expat posting and it is an odd place as there are no embassies.

My job requires me to travel to many countries in Asia. My current Visa for China will expire in Feb. Can an American get a one year Visa from the China Embassy in Singapore ? And secondly, my US Passport will expire in 18 months can I renew it at the US Embassy in Singapore. Or must I return to the US ?

The answers to your questions are yes and yes. Check their websites for details:

My daughter is an American, you can renew your passport in the US Embassy.

You can also get a brand new passport at the US Embassy (US Citizen Born abroad) in addition to renewals.

Once you arrive in Singapore, be sure to register with the Embassy with your local contacts and address in the case of emergency evacuations of US citizens. Always keep it up to date as well anytime you move or change phone numbers here in Singapore.
