Another on bites the dust! 28yr old passes away in sleep!

Postby ksl » Fri, 08 Dec 2006 1:26 am

I thought i would just say that, in the new paper today, I read of another young man passing away in is sleep, he had a fever at 2.am and died around 5 a.m.

It maybe something or nothing, although I can't help thinking, that when I returned to Singapore in August, I started my normal rutine of training at the gym, only to find that my body didn't wish to do anything.

The strange thing is my mind was motivated, but my mucles were not, I stopped and started over a period of 12 weeks and was a little concerned, that i was feeling short of breath, I had difficulty to tie my shoe lace, so I decide to visit my doctor.

She was quite shocked to see my pulse at 45 and my blood pressure at 140, and criticized me for not coming before, for what I thought! I wasn't feeling ill, just my muscles, didn't want to exercise, I considered the problem to be more nutritional, due to my low carb diet, until my heart beat had dropped so low, that I was having breathing problem. The doc asked how do i feel, and my reply was, "I think I have heart failure" I feel something around the heart now, which I never had before.

Anyway 450$ lighter and a good examination at the cardio specialist at mount elizabeth proved my heart to be in perfect condition, she had me wired up to the treadmill, and completed two other major tests, and said your heart is like music, so slow and the beat so nice to listen to.

Not like my normal patients, she said don't worry, and off i went, speculating but not really worried, I thought must be lung cancer, so off I go back to the docs, who suggest X-ray next.

:o  to find that there was a shadow on both lungs, which was restricting my breathing, they explained it looks very much like bronchitis, So back to the docs, for treatment.

I cannot help thinking just how strange this problem is, because i have no symptoms of cold or infection, and I explained to the doc, its now 3 months I have not been able to do any training. I finished a 14 day course of anti-biotics and felt my breathing capacity improve dramatically, So off I go to the gym, for a slow work out.

I could breath normal for the first time in 8 weeks, it wasn't the heart, but restricted cardio, forcing my puls lower eachday, with no clear symptoms,

Off I go back to my docs, to let her know, I can breath okay now, although my skin is hurting, and i had a sharp pain in my ear, which I recognised has a flue attack, becuase I had it in Taiwan several years ago, it was confirmed by puting a camera into my ears, where the inside was black and blue on the TV screen.

I suggested to my doctor, over the past 4 weeks several people have passed away in their sleep, do you think it could be this kind of flue, attacking the cardio system,

Answer no! OK well I'm still not right, so i need another x-ray on my chest to make sure it is clear, and i said I also want my sinuses checked, becuase wlately when i wake up, in the morning, it feels like a bad night on the beer. The x-ray was positive, the virus is sitiing there in a
crevice both sides, now 700$ lighter, we have actually caught up, with the infectious culprit, but can we kill it!

I write this tonight simply because of the article of another young guy in his late 20's passing away in his sleep, I just feel, that this silent infection, with no clear symptoms of flue, attacks and spreads rapidly to the lungs, turning into what looks like bronchitis, although this little devil, restricts breathing, and the puls drops dramatically, below the normal.

I'm surprised no one asked me for blood tests to test what flue infection it is, I have been treated with anti-biotics for the lungs and now have much stronger anti-biotics for the infection in my sinuses.

But i still have no real symptoms of flue, no runny nose or blocked nose, no coughing, But I recall a bout of real heavy sneezing, which I thought may have been the haze many weeks ago.

One thing for sure, is that I know my body that well, because of the years I have been training, and even when I am super fit, my puls remains at 48 to 50, and when I stop training, it would rise back to 60 to 65.

I still suspect, that this virus could be more deadly than one realises, because if i hadn't have gone to the doctors, when my puls had dropped to 45, their is no doubts, in my mind, that I felt I had heart failure, which triggered me to go to the doctors.

So be very careful and keep an eye on your puls, if you are not feeling 100%, there are no normal flue symptoms until its been through the lungs, the only sign for me was the occassional stabing pain, in the ear and I'm still on the medication for another two days. total cost is now 850$, money still well spent in my book!

If the anti-biotics don't work, then it's a nose op, pump fluid through the cavities! But remember this virus is heading straight for the lungs in my opinion. Obviously not my doctors opinion, otherwise I would have had a blood test,

Is it really all just a coincidence, I wonder!

I friend of mine said, and if the infection doesn't kill you, the worry will! two months lying in bed at night thinking i had heart failure!

Hmmm.......two things; keep a good eye on that stabbing pain in the ear, I get that but it's related to something I already know about, hope your not going down the same road. That of people dying in their sleep is known to happen to male Filipinos although I can't remember the details, it was mentioned in one of the Lonely Planet travel guides but others have been published since.

I'm also feeling a little short of breath.. went to a general health screening and got x ray for my lungs and spyrometry to test the capacity of my lungs. Doctor said everything is normal.. but i still feel a little shortness in my breath. After quitting smoking for a few months now, I still have this little cough that never seem to want to go away. I'm suspecting it might be allergy to dust.

I think Plavt is referring to the term 'bangungot'.. here is a link..

Yes! Interesting, although here in Singapore, it's seems to have just started in the last month.

I used to be a heavy smoker too, that's why I was thinking also so lung cancer, my point is how can they be so sure it is bronchitis, just by a shadow, and if so, I have never known the pulse to drop so low. I had been suffering the shortness of breath only a short, the first sign for me, was my leg muscles, were fatigued after only 12 minutes, being athletic most of my life, I had reason for concern, so i probably went 6 weeks before noticing the shortness of breath, it was only when i repeatedly tried each week, to train, that my lungs were restricted and i had a slight pain around the heart under physical activity.

I would really have thought they would have taken a blood sample, instead of diagnostics of a shadow! It doesn't make sense to me, when the symptoms are not that of a cold or flue.

I have had a bad habit of stopping and starting smoking, each time i go to Europe, becuase of the smoking environment, family ect.

I have always found it relatively easy to stop, even though i was on 40 a day, OK one can also say, if i hadn't smoked, I would have been able to run faster. each time the coughing got worse, so I have stopped since

August now, and will not start again. It does take a year or so for my coughing to ease, and for the phlegm to clear up.

Just keep an eye on your pulse for any change, i suspect these that have passed away have had some form of virus, although nothing is coming out in the media yet.

The guy yesterday was already on medication I believe and he had fever! which i have never had in the 12 weeks of suffering, maybe the vinegar drinks do help  Although the doc is sure the infection sitting in my sinuses, is probably responsible for the attack on the lungs, which will be a kind of flue!

Hello what kind of flue would be nice to know! Especially after paying out 800$ what's another couple of bucks for a blood test, I tried to request it, but they didn't think it neccassary, if it cannot be cured with anti-biotics, then it will be an enema of the nose and cavities

OMG not another one - great pity Jesus wasn't interested in all those people who died before during and after the second world war not to mention numerous atrocities committed throughout the world today. Do you really believe what you have posted? Perhaps I shouldn't say it but I hate people who come out with this codswallop.

Surprise surprise! I AM GOD! Tell me son, why do you follow all these imposters! I gave you life, and a brain, so why do you want, to become a sheep and follow others, that breach copy right, and adapt the holy book, for their own means! Go now and think what i say, for there is only one god and one devil, and for those that follow the muck cart, thinking it's a wedding, well they are wrong, it's just cow shit! :???:

I'm no doctor.. but that kinda sounds like angina - the pain around the heart under physical activity bit. I hope the doctor threw in a cholesterol test for the $800+ they billed you :x

Welcome to Singapore, where we just kill the natural resistance with anti biotics.

Life is about getting rid of symptoms, that's about how deep it gets in Singapore.
Time will come....

Well I'm afraid the anit-biotics have not worked on me, it is still in my sinuses!

Yes it seems like angina, although not, I suspectd heart,, because of pain and breath, but 100% ok, I also had a ful medical in UK, before leaving, which i do every time on my return, So cholestrol was well below normal, that i do know.
It is clear now that it is an infection in the sinuses, that multiplies and spreads to the lungs, and becomes bronchitis, although I have no explanation why, it effected my pulse rate so dramatically, I'm on my 3rd week of anti biotics and 76$ for 3 day supply, and have refused further medication on the grounds, that the anti-biotics are no cure, it does need washing out, if it's just sitting in the crevice of the sinus, how can the anti-biotic get to it! Still feels like it's been an heavy night on the booze, with a dull headache between the eyes.

ksl, I've suffered, and I don't use the term lightly, since I arived here 2.5 years ago - I've been to a supposedly very good ENT, an eye doctor, and other doctors to try and suss out why I have bouts of multiple weeks of water eyes, often combined with sneezing fits and / or nasal congestion and / or other symptoms. I never had this anywhere else, save for the seasonal really bad kafunsho / Sumi pollen hayfever that gets worse every year in Japan.

I've changed my diet, my laundry detergent, air con usage, shampoos and soaps, try to keep my papers and books in closed off rooms (lost of dust collects), and I still have not sorted this one out. Sounds like you may have something similar.

The ENT gets me sorted for a few weeks, then I'm ok for a few months then it unexpectedly comes back - he says there are limits to what he can do, told me to avoid histamine foods (Google it) and others he perscribed. That helps, but....

my conclusion is that I'm simply allergic to Singapore

hope you find some help

Thanks EADG! I think you are probably right, I have just had a bout of prickly heat on my feet, and the recommendation is antihistamine, although I bathed my feet in aged rice vinegar and it stopped the itching and cleared the rash. Now looking into the blood diet, I'm AB Rhesus Pos
