IT graduate job seeking

Post by AnnaTh » Thu, 07 Dec 2006 11:27 pm

Hi all

Just thought I'd share my experiences of looking for work in Singapore as a fresh IT graduate. This forum has given me loads of advice so I thought I might give something back!

I graduated from a top UK university in the summer, but I don't have a lot of work experience or any unusual or highly specialised skills. I arrived here with an EPEC, and agencies and employers really seemed to appreciate the fact that I had it. Looking for work here wasn't a lot of fun, I was sending out several applications every day but not hearing anything back. However I did get a few job offers from big MNC's (through agencies): I had only applied to one of them direct, the other two found my CV on Monster and gave me a call. I got my first job offer after 1.5 months here but that fell through. I've accepted the most recent job offer and when I start work, I'll have been in Singapore for 3.5 months. So my suggestion for anyone who may be in a similar situation: just keep on applying even though it may be frustrating, and remember to post your CV wherever you can!

Good luck for the job hunt everyone. :D

AnnaTh,

Congratulations, persistence CAN pay off. But like you said, it did take 3.5 months to do it. It is possible but you do need the wherewithall to be able to see it through till that break presents itself.

Glad you've come back to update us. I'm sure there are lot's of readers who will appreciate your feedback.

Rgds,

I do. That's a very interesting story there. Thank you for giving me the insight. :)
