What's agents fee for renewal of tenancy agreement?

Post by bigcalin » Wed, 22 Nov 2006 11:47 pm

I was looking to rent an appartment in a specific condo, agent told me that this unit was only available for six months. So I signed up and paid her half month's rent commission.

Four months later, agent called to say that landlord is willing to let me extend my rental for 12 more months. Now the agent wants me to pay her commission fee which is 1 month rent.

Is it fair? She (the agent) did not do very much...just filling up some forms. I am willing to pay her half month rent since from my previous experience I only pay 1 month rent whether I sign up for 1 year or 2 years rent.

Can anyone give any advice?

Based on my experience, agent commission is half a month's rent for 1 yr contract and 1 month rent for a 2 year contract

Look at the orginial contract, they're much the same and usually tell you the requirements. We just renewed our 2 year lease at double the rent! and we refused to pay extra. We've lived here for 2 years and they didn't do anything, so why pay them. There wasn't a new contract, just verbal agreement with everything in writing SMS style....how legal is that? Greedy agents.
