OTT - Fire on the horizon?

I know this is a bit OTT, but I am looking out my window, south west I think, and I am seein a huge column of fire burning and a heap of smoke... Nothin on the news about it... Anyone closer to it?

I can also see it, looks somewhere towards tiong bahru/ mount faber way. Its huge. nothing on the news sites though.

Just the refineries burning off excess hydrocarbons from their flare stacks.

Sigh, I wish it were as easy for humans to burn off excess carbohydrates from our fat stocks.

What's the difference between a hydrocarbon and a carbohydrate anyway? Both have hydrogen and carbon atoms right? I'm sure the chemical structure is different but I'm looking more for a layman explanation. Is a -carbon primarily carbon and a -hydrate primarily water?
