PS Cafe at Harding Rd (bad experience)

Post by acc » Sun, 19 Nov 2006 8:07 pm

Just wanted to share our dining (bad) experience today at PS Cafe. We thought today that it would be nice to try the PS Cafe and went there for Sunday brunch.

the place look quite nice and crowdy. Got our table and sat down. The waiter came took, our order and everything seemed fine. A few couples came also in at the same time and were seated next to our table. We were on the good mood and started to read some magazines while waiting for our drinks and food.

After a while i noticed that the tables next to our got their drinks and food. I thought that maybe our order just took a bit longer to process (still didnt' get our drinks, not to mention food).

Time went by and the couple next to us almost finished their meals and I was getting anxious so asked one of the waiters that what happened to our order. He was quite polite and nice, went in immediately and checked. He came out was sorry, his collegue had forgot to type in our order (!?!?). So there we were, waiting and the waiter had forgot our order! Must be quite extraordinaire I thought, although in a good restaurant with good service this is somewhat that you would not expect.

After a (long) wait, the food eventually came and we thought that we don't mind about the small incident. So we continued our dining experience. My girlfriend took Caesar's Salad. After a while she asked that what's in her salad. We started to look closely and noticed that in the salad she was having were small bugs (!?!?!?!?!), looked like many small flies! How disgusting is that?!? Immediately I called the waiter again and he confirmed that in the salad was something else than expected.

He took the salad and went in. After a small moment, he came back and said that there were some mistake (or something like that whatsoever). They could replace the salad. (?!?!?) Replaced it? How on earth we would be able to eat anything after this. And he continued immediately that we don't have to pay for the salad. I was quite upset and asked for the manager. The so-called manager, youngish guy came and said that yes, they have been overlooking the salad, because of the rush. So many orders etc.

If you ask me, a good dining experience contains two components, the service and the food. In this case, both components were way under par!! You would expect that a place with such a good reputation would be much much better.

What really annoyed us was the attitude of the so-called manager. You would expect that if this kind of situations happen, the manager would take it more seriously. All he was baffling was that people overlooked, busy, etc and the most annoying thing was that stupid grin he was having. All he could mumble out was that we don't have to pay for the salad. I said that I am not even going to pay for my meal either. And the so-called manager said that it's not really fair, because I almost finished my meal! I am just saying that even if I pay double of the price, would we get back the on-time service and food without any bugs or flies? Of course not, so we walk out from the place. This was the first and surely the last time at PS Cafe.

for the reference, I thought the second waiter was very polite. He was sorry about that someone had forgot our order and he looked really disgusted when he saw the small flies. While the so-called manager had only the grin on his face. Maybe he thinks flies in the salad is just normal.

i totally agree about the service aspect at PS cafe. i too, did not have a good experience with the service staff, and it wasn't even crowded on the day. moreover, i had tried patronising the cafe a further 3 times, and SURPRISE SURPRISE, i still recieved BAD service. think someone needs to formally lodge a complaint to them.

lost customer.

I really like PS cafe. Their turkey cranberry sandwich is amazing. I've been there about 10 times, and never had trouble with the service -- except for asking the servers for "recommended" dishes -- they would draw a blank...but this is typical throughout singapore. sorry about your bad experience.

yea, really sorry to hear about your bad experience. why shud we pay for mandatory service charge when we receive inconsistent, lousy, bad or no service at all! this is insane!

i wud rather leave tips in place of service charge. i think we shud have the option to leave tip only when we get great service or a job well done.

also, i wud never go back to a place once i receive bad or ordinary service. it is important to me, n it is one of the deciding factors for me.

Well i go for breakfast at PS cafe almost every weekend. Excellent food and service every time without fail. Not sure what the fuss is about as i see nothing but happy faces sitting in there. Also, dont forget we are in fact in asia! Food arrives when its ready, not in a specific order.

food in order?

Post by wahodges » Mon, 12 Mar 2007 5:28 pm

if the fact we are asia means that i will get steak and chips for dessert and a prawn cocktail for main course just cos its ready , no F& B place worth its reputation would survive with that service. starters are named aptly so, dont you agree - also i lived in india which is possibly 25 yrs behind most of the modern world food and bev wise, but they still managed to serve our starters before my double esspresso!

well they still serve and store red wine chilled below 0 temp and white wine hotter then a Kolkota curry - maybe the 25 years is a bit much .
