Kiwi having first baby in Singapore

Post by Adie » Thu, 02 Nov 2006 12:40 pm

I'm interested in hearing from other expats who have had their first child in Singapore, within 9 months of arriving - Is it hard to meet others in a similar situation before you have the baby? - And what are the mothers' groups/networks like once you have the baby?

first baby in singapore

Post by Singapore Newbie » Mon, 06 Nov 2006 7:05 pm

We had our first baby in Singapore 4 months ago and we moved here 3 months before she was born. The best place to meet other expecting mums is via antenatal classes (like those offered at Mother and Child Centre). Those in my class became friends and we have since formed a playgroup.

Good luck with your first baby.

Hi OP, I went to B&B for my pre-natal excercise and ante-natal classes (found them to be really good by the way). The mums I know now are a mixture that I met through B&B and M&C - also very good. M&C offers get-togethers for new mothers, just go and put your name down to form a group. This is a great way to meet new mums with babies at a similar age to yours. Although a few have now left Singers the rest of those from my group still meet up regularly. Also M&C now offer some kind of breastfeeding cafe/meet-up once a week. Never tried it but probably a good one to try if you didn't get a chance to meet anyone prior to your babies birth.
