Long-term Social Visit Pass for American

Have any Americans out there sponsored a girlfriend for a LTSVP? I ask because it seems quite strait forward for non Americans whose embassy can write a letter conferring comon-law status. The US embassy does not -- they only will notarize an affidavit -- and they did not know if that would be enough to convince Singaporean authorities. Thanks for any information.
