Advice on Schools and Residential Location please

Post by Mickey B » Tue, 17 Oct 2006 5:42 am

We are considering locating to Singapore or South Malaysia.

I will be working in Pasir Gudang, and would like to live in a house with a Garden and not in the city.

We are British with two girls (7 + 9) and would like them to go to a good British School. As I will also need to fly as part of my job every week, being a reasonable distance from the airport would be good.

Our first priority is the school so would appreciate some advice on;

1. What are the best British Schools in the area?
2. Are there British schools in South Malaysia i.e. Jahor Bahru or Pasir Gudang?
3. Is Pasir Gudang commutable daily from Singapore?
4. What are the good residential areas outside of Singapore City which are commutable to Pasir?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Commuting between Singapore and Malaysia is a major hassle, as the Causeway is perennially congested (the queues on weekends can be insane) and the less crowded 2nd Link is inconveniently far away (precisely the wrong side from Pasir Gudang).

There is nothing but "Singapore City" in Singapore. Prices for housing and land are far lower in Malaysia.

There is at least one international school in Johor, but I have no idea if it's any good -- you'll probably have better luck asking on a Malaysia forum.

JB has its own airport (Senai), although its connections are very limited. Still, flying from JB via Kuala Lumpur is also an option.
