TREE TOP WALK

http://www.nparks.gov.sg/nature_central_treetops.asp

The first of its kind in Singapore and in the region, this free-standing suspension bridge connects the two highest points (Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang) in MacRitchie and offers a bird’s eye view of the community of plants and animals that live in the forest canopy.
Want to experience how it is like walking along this 250m suspension bridge and you are 25m above ground, overlooking the top of the forest trees?

Meeting Point:

http://www.street-directory.com/ssc/ssc ... r=&level=7

Please note that the starting and meeting point is now at Venue Drive, car park. Walk Starts at 8:00 AM. Incase you are driving, please arrive at Car Park before 7:30 AM as the Carpark is usually full after this time.

Getting There:

Please read on to plan your journey to the HSBC TreeTop Walk

Opening Hours

Tue to Fri: 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
Sat, Sun and Public Holidays: 8.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.

Note: The HSBC TTW is closed on Mondays except public holidays for maintenance and research.

Getting There

The HSBC TreeTop Walk is accessible from MacRitchie Reservoir Park via 1) MacRitchie Nature Trail (indicated as Route 3 on map) or from 2) Venus Drive, off Upper Thomson Road.

The distance to the entrance of the TreeTop Walk is approximately 4.5 km (1.5 - 2 hour walk) from the reservoir park and 2.5 km (45 mins - 1 hr walk) from the carpark at Venus Drive. Therefore, a round trip including the TreeTop Walk is about 7 to 10 km (3-5 hours depending on your walking pace).

Getting to MacRitchie Reservoir

By Bus
Take bus nos. 74, 93, 130, 132, 156, 157, 162, 165, 166, 167, 605, 852, 855 or 980. Alight along Lornie Road at the bus-stop in front of MacRitchie Reservoir Park.

By Car
Entrance to the MacRitchie Reservoir Park car park is along Lornie Road.

Getting to Venus Drive

By Bus
Take bus nos. 132, 163, 165, 166, 167, 640, 855 or 980. Alight along Upper Thomson Road near junction with Sing Ming Ave.

By Car
Entrance to the car park is along Venus Drive, off Upper Thomson Road.

Please note that a section of Sime Track (from MacRitchie Ranger Station to Petaling Hut) is affected by a landslide. It is currently closed until further notice. Look out for the directional signs along the hiking routes.

Visitors on their way back to the Ranger Station from the TreeTop Walk will be directed to the pipeline track halfway along Petaling Trail, and then to Peirce Track.

Visitors walking on Route 4 (Yellow) and 5 (Pink) towards Jelutong Tower and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve will be directed from the ranger station onto Peirce Track, pipeline track, Petaling Trail and then onto the unaffected portion of Sime Track after the Petaling Hut.

The walk to the HSBC TreeTop Walk is graded as moderate and difficult. Due to the distance and terrain, the hike to the HSBC TreeTop Walk may not be suitable for young children and the elderly. Instead of the TreeTop Walk, you may wish to try the two boardwalk trails- indicated as Route 1 (3 km) and Route 2 (4.8 km) on the map - for a shorter but equally interesting experience in the Nature Reserves. Both bordwalks are accessible from the MacRitchie Reservoir Park. You may also wish to visit the more accessible Kent Ridge Canopy Walk, a raised boadwalk with the highest point at 16m, at Kent Ridge Park.

Hiking tips for your comfort and safety :

Tips for a hike to HSBC TreeTop Walk

Singapore's weather is generally hot and humid all year round, with the average temperatures ranging from 25 to 33 degree Celsius. Rainy season occurs between mid-November to late January. Visitors can expect occasional storms, which are unpredictable and usually last for half to an hour.

Appropriate clothing would be loose-fitting cotton shirts and long pants, which help to keep insects at bay and are suitable for outdoor walking/trekking in our forests. Comfortable walking shoes or sneakers are recommended.

Useful items to bring: mini first-aid kit; ample supply of bottled water; insect repellent; a sturdy umbrella; a large outdoor hat; a small towel; a walking stick and a change of clothing.

It is not advisable to bring young children less than six years of age. Bothered by the heat and humidity, the little ones usually find the walk/trek too tough.

Be sure to be in good health before you make the trip. It is a challenging walk for anyone who does not walk/trek regularly.

Do not eat any fruits or plants that you see along the way, unless you know they are edible.

Do not stray away from other walkers/trekkers. There is safety in numbers

Do not take unnecessary risks such as climbing rocks and trees.

Do have a good meal at least an hour before the walk.

Do not bring food into the reserves. If you have to, please eat at appropriate locations and remove all litter.

Dogs and pets are not allowed into the nature reserves. Domestic pets are still animals and may disturb wild species. Their inadvertent droppings or discharges will also create confusing scent trails or marks for the wild fauna that live in the forest.

Do not take any natural things out of the reserves including leaves, roots, and branches. It is a serious offence to do so. Any tiny act of irresponsibility when multiplied will have a disastrous impact on our forests ecology and micro-systems.

Do pay attention to signs and notice boards that are both informative and directive. The educational information will enhance your trip and make it more worthwhile.

It is the total experience that counts. Do not treat the trip as just a good exercise. Take time to enjoy the walk. Be alert to the little things at your feet and listen to the natural sounds. Try to notice the movements of the flora and fauna. There are attractive patterns to observe and many beautiful insects to admire.

Maddy the meeting point is Venus drive carpark and not the main MacRitchie Reservoir Car Park.

Usual route is 10.3 kms,but it is not family friendly. We are taking a shorter route of 5kms in total up /down. If more guys are coming I will pull in some China Gals to join the crowd........ :P

Dude,

I am working over the weekend....  You can post the same event in the main forum if you are know the route from venus drive carpark. Trail map with directions in given at the start of the trail, but since the regular trail is blocked half way you have to turn left immediately after crossing the tree top bridge to go back to Rangers Station. Half of the people during my earlier walk lost trail and ended up walking twice the distance.

Yesterday evening I played Badminton with my office colleagues and it is a regular activity every week on Thursday's only for my company employees. After playing badminton at Tampines for couple of times I realized that I have been taxing myself too much with all the additional traveling to do. Since my health is pretty bad I may not be playing regularly again with you all, but may bump in to play once a while. I had informed you that I will not play badminton this weekend, but had asked you to go ahead with the booking if you intend to play.
