On a very recent trip to SG to look for housing, we ran into an unpleasant experience that I thought should be shared. The agent we were using was quite good and completely understood our requirements including our 2 dogs we want to bring. She informed all the LL/agents before arranging viewings. One place we saw was fantastic and it seemed to be popular so we thought we needed to move fast.
Initially, the LL/agent said pets were no problem but when we showed our interest the next day after we viewed the place, the ll turned around and said that they had concerns about the pets and wanted $200 more. We declined just on principle that they said it wasn't an issue. Then after considering our profile as a "good profile tenant" they started to slowly reduce the rent to entice us back.
Although we were quite interested in the place, our agent advised against it just for the fact that they turned around after agreeing on something to try and get more rent out of us because of our interest.
Anyway, the moral of the story is that it is a LL market and you need to be aware of the LL you are dealing with not to mention that apartments are disappearing very quickly, rents are going way up and it is not as easy to negotiate things you want.
Just my advice of doing the deed just recently. We were lucky enough to find a great place and have put in an offer but you never know what might happen.

It sounds like it's just as important to interview the land lord to determine if they are trust worthy as it is for them to find out if you are a suitable tenant. Hummmmm
