What do Expats' spouses here do?

Post by OZEXPAT » Tue, 03 Oct 2006 8:37 pm

Hi. Just curious here. If you had followed your hubby or missus to Singapore... what DO you do? I get the impression that many expat house wives/husbands do little else but shop, travel and eat (unless you have found a job).

What courses have people undertook here that you recommend?

A respectible portion join voluntary organizations to help the charities, homes, and other humanitarian gestures. Then there are those who just lay around the pool with their baggage while other become closet alcholics. You can also do the one you mentioned. Endless circuit of lunches, brunches, shopping, happy hours etc. Then there are those who finds other more unsavory pastimes which I'll not go into.

In other words, they do amost exactly the same things they would do at home (provided you lived in a large cosmopolitan city) if they did not have to work.

OZEXPAT.....the first thing you do is join the Australian New Zealand Association (ANZA) here in Singapore.

Go to a new members lunch, or a coffee morning and meet up with a bunch of expat wifes who will share their knowledge with you.

My wife did this the first week she arrived in Singapore and now has a huge bunch of friends and is always busy doing something....

Most of them are over shopping after a few months, you have to eat sometime and travel is a must when you live in Singapore...

Enjoy....

Quite a few people take the opportunity to complete degrees etc while they are here as they have the time to study. There are also many other courses in arts and such that can be done while you are here. Painting, mosaics, sculpture, dance, music etc.
