Seeking IT Job

Post by valerino » Tue, 03 Oct 2006 4:26 pm

Dear all,

I've been applying for IT jobs in Singapore for 2 months, but none ot them replied
I know it's difficult because I'm not a Singaporean and I don't have EP/PR status.

So I would like to request any help from this forum, just in case someone requires my skills/experience :)

I have 3 years software development experience and 2 years IT support experience. I'm a Sun Microsystems Certified Java Programmer and currently suporting Toyota Asia Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand.

Anyone can help me please...

I see skills, but I see no useful experience. What kind of software do you work with? Why should somebody hire you and go through the hassle of applying for EPs etc, when they can just buy a twelve-pack of local software grads off the shelf at 7-11?

It's not so much that getting an EP is a hassle... the paperwork isn't very bad... it is just that there is not much point in applying for one when there is a lot of talent in the local market. And I'd say that 3 years experience, with no area of specialization named probably makes it unlikely that an EP would be granted... there are many qualified local techies.

So you're still in Thailand, are you? My husband and I had been applying for gazillions of jobs in Singapore while we were still over in Europe, but only received a couple of responses. However, as soon as we arrived here, the response was much much better. It seemed that companies weren't really interested while we were abroad -> not showing much commitment...

To the OP, if you have searched before you posted, then you would have known that the online job sites and recruitors are key.

Of course, the number one lure of eager IT foreigners who want to get here is the "cheap" (for Malaysians, at least) price tag...

But the world is full of fluffier ones.
