PPL and Commercial Pilot Licence
Dear all, as I am new to this forum, any kind soul can advise me on this.
I have a PPL and wanted to have a mid career change, can someone advise me on how can I get my CPL or join SIA as a pilot? Do I need to go through the same training as a cadet trainee or some examption since I have a PPL? Pls advise...many thanks

Are you in the air force?
If you are,you should call up SIA and ask them regarding this..

Re: PPL and Commercial Pilot Licence
You had best write to SIA themselves as you not likely to get the answer here. You can get you CPL privately (if you can actually afford it) or simply wait until you obtain employment with a commercial airline. Do be aware the competition is severe and the last time I had figures 60% of SIA's pilots were/are foreigners.opboy wrote:Dear all, as I am new to this forum, any kind soul can advise me on this.

You need to have a commercial Pilot's Liscence..As plavt said,if you can afford it then you're all set to be a First Officer straight away..If you want to be a Captain, you need at least 7000 hours total inclusive of 3000 PIC hours on commercial jets in international operations. Preference will be given to applicants with Glass Cockpit/Flight Management Systems experience.
Applicants with a current B777 or A340 rating are required to have a minimum type experience of 1000 PIC hours.
Applicants may state preference for the fleet type but the fleet type offered will depend on the applicant's flying experience and vacancy.

Re: PPL and Commercial Pilot Licence
If I'm not mistaken, you will go through the same training for the cadet pilot scheme. Not all who have a PPL make it into the programme but I guess it might give you an edge over other applicants since you already have the basic knowledge.opboy wrote:Dear all, as I am new to this forum, any kind soul can advise me on this.

If you have a CPL and pass through all rounds of interviews, you will go straight for type conversion, but I'm not sure if you'll be flying for SIA. High chance it's SilkAir or SIA Cargo. This info could be very unlikely as they advertises the expatriate captain position for conversion training if applicants don't have a B777 or A340 type rating.
The information I state may not be accurate though. You could go to http://www.askcaptainlim.com. Loads of information for aspiring pilots.

Why should there be an exemption for you? Just because you have a PPL?opboy wrote:Hi, it is Private Pilot Licence. If I want to join SIA as a pilot, do I need to go through all(training) as a cadet pilot or some examption?sQ-StEwaRd-ShazNi wrote:What is a PPL?
I'll find out from SIA's website and I'll let you know soon.
Thanks.
Hi, thinking that if got a ppl, anyway of cutting short on certain training? After reading all post out there, seem like getting into SIA would be quite diffiult... You have to go through all aircaraft training to familiarize yourself with the boeing jets and other carriers...opboy wrote:Hi, thinking that if got a ppl, anyway of cutting short on certain training? Bottom line is... if you want to fly big iron you need to build commercial hours. Lots of pilots start as instructors, then move to small regional craft, then maybe frieght. 3000 hours might get you into a small commuter airline, 6000-7000 to get into the big stuff.
SIA's program accelerates this process... but you still must build hours. Would you want a pilot with only a 1000 hours total time driving your plane?
There's drivers, pilots, and artisans.
