Tips where to stay, East coast or Bukit Timah

Post by spiderolli » Wed, 13 Sep 2006 1:35 pm

Hi,
During the last 3 days we spend a lot of time with our housing agent looking for an appartment. My wife and me (no kids) are lookng for a nice 3 bedroom appartment. But know we are getting more and more in trouble or better to say confused.
We are not sure where to stay. We saw a very nice appartment in Bukit Timah called Garden vista (Dunearn Road) and a nice appartment at the east coast in the Water Place condo. From the private activities we prefer to stay at the east coast, but we heart the the transport connection isn't established already. Only buses are available, but a far way to the MRT. Did anybody of you have experiences? Postive is the short way to the airport and the office ( MacPherson Road) + direct at the coast and near to the city. In the beginning my wife doesn't work but want to have the flexibilty to work at a later time, or go for sports (fitness studio)and shopping.
The big advantage of the Bukit Timah is, that it is close to the city and easy access to the MRT. Please let us know your experience. It would be very helpful. Thank you. Rg

If there are buses running from your East Coast choice then you don't really need to worry about the MRT.

The bus system here is very cheap, efficient, timely and omnipresent.

Just make sure you have at least on route on the bus that gets you to work and you will be fine.

hi,

i've just shifted out of maplewoods (directly opp garden vista, gv) and the traffic jam in the morning and evening is a bit of a headache for me. there is no mrt station near to gv but lots of buses going to different parts of singapore esp to the city. but i can't imagine getting stuck in a jam at bukit timah road follow by another along the express way and yet another at macpherson  (which is located next to eunos - an industrial and residential area).

water place is definitely very much nearer to macpherson. i think there is a shutter bus that takes residents staying in the condo to the nearest bus stop or mrt station. it is just 5 mins to suntec, city hall and about 10 mins to orchard road. i like that area too.

otherwise you may wish to consider "cote d azur" which is directly next to parkway parade (a huge shopping mall with restaurants, supermarkets, bookshop etc). bus stop is just in front (if i remember correctly). it has nice seaview and very near to the beach - a short walk will get you there. it isn't too far from water place and much nearer to macpherson.

happy hunting :P

Hi,
First of all thank you very much for your reply. What a story.
At the end we decided to go for Garden Vista. Now we are happy, after finalising this topic of finding an appartment.
Next step would be to find a shop where we can get some furniture.

hi spider,

im new to this board and was wondering how much you're renting your place in Garden Vista?

Are the prices in the classifieds normally fixed or is there an allowance for haggling?

I'm relocating from the US in around 1 month's time.

Appreciate anyone's advice!
