How to retain parents after acquiring PR ??

Post by Shashidhar » Mon, 11 Sep 2006 4:16 pm

Dear Friends,

I am all set to apply for a PR but for my mother's case. My mother has all along been staying with me on a LTSVP(long-term social visit pass) that is linked to my P2 Employment Pass. Again, as clearly stated in ICA website, parents can get a PR only when sponsored by their Singapore citizen child.

Based on my findings and after reading through the literature at ICA and MOM web sites, I presume that soon after acquiring PR, my mother's LTSVP needs to be cancelled. Subsequently my mother would have to apply to ICA and get a visit pass that can allow her to stay for some more months(3 to 6 months). As this arrangement would be very inconvenient for me to retain my mother for as long as I am in Singapore, I am getting discouraged from taking up PR.

As such I am wondering if any of you as PR here have been able to have your parents stay with you as a PR or in some other way.

Does anybody have any experience of getting PR for their parents along with or subsequent to their own PR process??

Kindly share your views on my peculiar problem.

Regards,
Shashi.

I would certainly believe that MOM have these issues covered, and are a matter of routine, if your mum is dependant on you in one way or another. I would just get your PR and follow up, about your mum while its being processed. you can always put it in the dustbin, if you want to leave at a later date, don't worry so much. Surely they can issue a new LTSVP if not a dependant pass, it will sort its self out.

One thing is for sure, parents don't qualify for PR status, just because you do, that i'm quite sure of.
