Diane35 is cheaper, S$15. But i put on weight when i was on Diane35, so i changed to Yasmin.

So far did not put on weight while on Yasmin. It's great! But honestly for complexion-wise, Diane35 better.

What is JB? Jalan Besar? We just moved to Singapore and I'd like my wife to continue taking Diane.

Thanks!

Oh ok... Malaysia.

Is it safe there? I may need to make the run this weekend.

What is the easiest way to cross the border just to buy the pills.

Thanks!

Are you taking Yasmin only for birth control or for acne as well? I have been prescribed it by my doctor as part of my treatment for acne so I was wondering if anyone knows if would I need to get a prescription from a gynae or would a dermatologist be able to prescribe it over there?

@zuttanany
if your doctor who prescribed yasmin as part of the acne treatment cant sell/provide u the pill, probably you will need to see a doc at any clinic to get yasmin.

I used to get yasmin at 25$. But the GP i go to ,increased the price to 28$ :( few weeks back .

I have been taking yasmin for 1 year ord, so far I havent experienced any weight loss or gain at all.

hi, i've read about birth control pills as an effective contraceptive method, and it also helps with acne. does it really work against acne? taking bcp will be like killing two birds with one stone for me...

yar, depending on which bcp you're taking, it can be effective against acne. i'm taking yaz and my acne has cleared a bit. it's FDA-approved pill that can improve complexion against acne. but everyone's body is different. what may work for one person, may not work for the other. visit your GP for consultation.

some women might experience minor side effects. probably due to their hormone levels not being suitable with the pill. if thats the case, she can just switch to another brand recommended by the doctor. my fren had to switch brands twice but after that she has zero side effects. regarding worsening acne, i've never heard of anyone experiencing it, but i know only certain bcp actually helps with acne. so you need to talk to your GP/dermatologist.

hello!

I assume that y'all are aware that yasmin contains drospirenone (progestogen hormone) and ethinyloestradiol (estrogen hormone).

With regards to bodyweight changes, studies on the antialdosterone properties of drospirenone were investigated previously and the results showed:

'Weight data was obtained from 1,985 women on Yasmin and 822 women on Marvelon. There was a reduction in bodyweight in the majority of women taking Yasmin and an increase with the women taking Marvelon. Mean changes in weight gain, cycles 1 to 13 were Yasmin -0.489 kg and Marvelon +0.019 kg.'

P.S. Marvelon is another combined oral contraceptive agent containing desogestrel and ethinyloestradiol.

However, it is important to still be clear that the results are meant for an 'average person' and it may not be applicable to each and every individual since no one can be considered as 'average'.

Also, with regards to acne, normally and in a classical situation, acne is normally cause by high testosterone (male hormone) level and i wouldn't think that acne is going to be a problem since yasmin contains estrogen (female hormone), which should help with your acne. Nevertheless, still consult your GP before taking any medication especially when you're already on medications.

hope it helped! ;)

Hello sundaymorningstaple!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm currently studying in Australia, and plan to work in Singapore sometime after I graduate. I'm a Malaysian and I've spent most of my time and started my education since young in Singapore. I chanced upon this particular thread about yasmin and thought I could help a little since I deal with medicines almost everyday. :D

hey kate! :)

Some medications may interfere with how the pill works or prevent it from working properly. Medicines include those used for treatment in epilepsy (phenytoin, barbiturates, primidone, etc), tuberculosis (rifampicin) and especially ANTIBIOTICS (ampicillin, tetracyclines, etc) for some infectious diseases. That's why it is important to let your pharmacist or GP know that you're on the pill before they prescribe or dispense any medications to you.

Antibiotics are very commonly prescribed to patient by the GP and I've seen many patients taking both antibiotics and yasmin together which isn't good. It might increase your risk of getting pregnant as the antibiotic reduces the effectiveness of yasmin.

There is a theoretical potential for an increase in serum potassium if you're taking Yasmin with other drugs that increase serum potassium levels. Such drugs include ACE inhibitors (anti-hypertensive drugs), angiotensin-II-receptor antagonists (anti-hypertensive drugs), certain anti-inflammatory drugs (indomethacin), diuretics that may increase the potassium in your blood, and aldosterone antagonists.

I am not exactly sure how long it will take before you'll see the effects of yasmin for your acne. But yasmin helps in acne as it reduces the greasiness of the skin. Nevertheless, it shouldn't worsen the condition of your acne.

Have you tried any other medications specially for your acne?

hi paperbags! thx very much for your reply. i will keep in mind to inform the doc if i need to take other medication as well.

regarding my acne, i have mild or moderately mild acne and it doesnt bother me too much so i didnt go out of my way to get special medication for it. but i've gotten married recently and we're not thinking of starting a family yet. so ive been researching for contraceptive methods, including birth control pills. since some bcp helps with acne as well, i thought maybe it'll work best for my situation. can i just get it at any local GP?
