Fitness Clubs in Singapore

Post by zabda » Fri, 08 Sep 2006 10:04 pm

Anybody can recommend a good Fitness Club - nothing too crowded - good trainers ,etc

I have been looking for one but found that the main ones are too commercialised

If u feel that the main ones too commercialise then most of them will not suit u. U don't really need a trainer to help u, there are plenty of info on net nowadays. The public gyms now are much better than last time.
U should go try some of them out.

I working out in a gym opp novena square. Have been to many gyms, this one is the best thus far. not crowded at all. All the trainers are professional and good, esp my trainer. He guides me very well. The best of all is his PT is cheap, so I can afford. ha ha...[/code]

I go to Amrita at Raffles The Plaza Hotel - being a hotel gym it's fairly quiet but well-equipped. I use one of their trainers and think he's very good.

It's not cheap but you can use all the spa facilities, pools, etc.

I actually wanted to sign up amrita. But is really too pricy. Before that, i were in Calif. fitness, but is far too crowded. So, now I am with a fitness gym in novena house. Paying only $600 for 10 sessions.

Agree, cupidth, it's expensive, but we weighed it all up and decided it was good for us. We don't live in a condo so don't have access to a pool, I used the spa for facials and massages anyway and now get a discount plus a whole wad of S$100 vouchers thrown in - all in all, with a conservative estimate of our usage of the spa and vouchers, it worked out much the same as Fitness First. I have no idea on Califit prices as we didn't go there. Planet Fitness was a lot cheaper (and shabbier) but they wanted 2 years upfront and we were not prepared to risk that.

We also use a personal trainer and by buying a package have got him for (I think) about S$45 a session.

I'm about to open a new facility... like nothing that has been seen here before. However this facility is more for the serious trainee - no leg extension machines....

I'll keep you posted if interested.

Hi seasider, But are u paying the monthly fees in addition to the PT? I check up on Amrita before, the monthly fees is market rate, right? For my club, I am not paying any monthly fees at all, just the PT session. During the 10 sessions for PT, I get to use their gym for free, unlimited.

Yes I am but if I assume 2 PT sessions a week (3rd time I go it alone), my PT cost plus membership for 1.5 months works out not that much more than yours. (I've taken into account a realistic amount for vouchers and discounts.)

If I can do my sums, that is. :)

Hi seasider,
I just contacted Amrita and they offer a yearly package at $2940 with about $800 of vouchers and no monthly fee.
I am new to Singapore so I'm not sure about other gyms cost, how does it compare?

Very expensive! I got 3 years platinum with Califonia for less than that!

Yes, as I said above it's not the cheapest, but on a value for money basis it works for us (did I mention husband and I got a couple's package? not sure)

I was there today and noticed, in the lift, a special package for a number of personal training sessions (perhaps 36) which I vaguely thought was a good deal compared to cupidth's. Sorry, you'd have to contact them for details as I can't remember them all. The sales person there that we dealt with is Cynthia - doesn't do the hard sell at all but very helpful.

Hi Harold - yes do go visit them all, and at peak time too. Take into account ease of location - will you go from the office, on the way home, etc. Amrita works for us because my husband works at Suntec and I do my grocery shopping at Raffles City, plus it's only ten minutes' ride away at weekends. None of the Califits would be good for us and I'd heard bad things about their hard sell (as I experienced myself at Fitness First). Planet Fitness may be ok but we thought the Suntec one shabby - check out the offer they have on at the time you want to join. Do NOT pay an admin/joining fee - a few of them will try this but really, what a cheek!

An alternative is to go to a local ClubFitt gym, no frills, costs about S$2.50 a session but may be fine for serious weight-trainers, unlike myself that endures the gym so I can reward myself with the spa. ;)
