The AIS is in Lorong Chuan and there are one or two condominiums in that area around the Chuan Park vicinity. The other place would be Bishan which is better serviced by shopping malls and has a smattering of newish developments. But that's a click or two away and separated from the school by gynormous highways, ie only accessible by car, walking in the mid day sun highly unrecommended. The other residential area nearby but made up mostly of landed property is in the Serangoon Gardens area which Lorong Chuan leads up to. Although this you don't have criss crossing highways to contend with its still a walk of 1 - 2 kms. However, having said that it has a charm and intimacy all its own which you can't find most anywhere else in Singapore and therefore well worth considering. It too is well serviced by shops, restaurants etc. But if you want ot save on the walking, the Chuan Park area gets the vote
