Credit Cards

Post by AussieEm » Fri, 01 Sep 2006 11:33 am

My Friend has an American Express that offers lots of discounts but there are many places that do not accept them. I have a HSBC card that still gives dicounts but the interest rate is lower I THINK!!!
I applied to OCBC and got rejected even though I have never had any problems before, I have a good contract and I earn over what is expected!! They would not explain why I was rejected!! It has happened to others I know also!! STRANGE!!

OCBC gave me the cards when I was on EP.

POSB gives a 5 year waiver on yearly fees where the others are giving 1-2 years waiver.

UOB requests an $80,000 yearly income for non-PR where the others request a $60,000 yearly income.

The real kicker is that I have not found a "gold" card that gives you any more benefits over a regular card. When I asked the staff at OCBC they simply stated that the gold card held more "prestige" because it was gold coloured! Wow, a gold coloured card for more than $100 extra in yearly fees. The gold card does give you a few extras is you ARE a PR, but not if you're not.
