Baby's First Soap / Shower Wash?

Post by wildrose » Sat, 19 Aug 2006 10:57 pm

Hi,

I would like to know whether anyone has any suggestions as to what type and brand should be used for Baby's First shower, without irritating the gentle skin.

Please suggest from experience.

Thanks, Wildrose

I am using California Baby and love it. It is gentle and smells nice. You can buy it at Creme in the Scotts Shopping Centre. They also have some other imported brands there. You can also try Kiehl's. There's a Kiehl's shop in the same shopping centre.

Hi Wildrose, i propose Baby Series - Baby Shower Gel
No irritant; it is kinder on the skin than water.
For baby and those with sensitive skins.
Most importantly - NO Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

Of the several brands I tried, I love California Baby the best. Now that they are older, I just switch to the general brand like Gerber and Johnson.

I second the California Baby products.

One thing to consider that just using plain water is OK too :-)

Babies, especially newborns don't necessarily need soaps and body washes as such. If you think about it, all those yummy smells are really only for our benefit. Obviously as they get older and mobile, having a gentle baby soap or body wash comes in handy. Some products can also have overwhelming fragrances which can also interrupt the bonding process and distract babies when they are trying to smell their mommas!

To keep baby's skin from drying out, one can also use cold pressed edible oils such as grapeseed oil or olive oil.
Oils and soaps such as Johnson & Johnson are mineral based (a derivative of petroleum) and not so good if injested (little hands or feet being put in ones mouth!)

Good luck...

When our baby was born we bought all the avent soaps and oils but the staff at the hospital told us to bin all the soaps, talcs, oils etc. and just use plain water, so far she is 7 months old and no problems, it is great for traveling as you don’t have to lug all the baby bath product with us.
