CHANGING SCHOOLS any recommendations??

Post by Mirandouli » Thu, 17 Aug 2006 9:15 am

Hi there Mumsand Dads.

We've been in Singapore for a year now and have had our daughter at EtonHouse. Have been very happy with it, but our "bright" ONLY CHILD little 5 (this November) year old needs more variety - after school programs etc.

We want to continue her Mandarin as she does 1/2 day English and 1/2 day Mandarin and is coping well. Would be a shame to lose her Mandarin already acquired (we're not Mandarin speakers).

I know we are spoilt for choice re schools in Singapore so here goes...
Criteria:
*Significant Mandarin Programme
*Mainstream is taught by English speaking teachers (may consider fully Mandarin school - not sure)
*holiday programme
*Some after school activities
*caring, Encouraging philosophy -not pushy school
* Not thousands of kids on campus
*Prefer private but not necessary
*school bus.
*Location not important - quality is.

OK, so does any such wonder school exist??? Or are there close encounters?

Thanks for your help.

Eton House

Post by Patrick777 » Mon, 21 Aug 2006 6:07 pm

Please can you share with me why you want to pull her out of Eton House? I'm thinking of putting my boy 2 &1/2 in Eton and would like to know if you have anything negative about it? Please can you give some more detail on what you're not happy about. We are English and therefore not interested in Mandarin really.

Cheers

Patrick

Can not fault Eton House, just that the various Eton House campuses run different programmes, and different term dates etc. My daughrter now needs more after school activities etc, not offered at the current campus. I'm considering one of the other Eton House campuses.

For 2 and a half it's great.

International Community School

Did you call International Community School, near Ginza Plaza, and Clementi MRT area? They start teaching Mandarin in the kindergarten age group, they have lots of after school activities/clubs, and may still have an opening in the 5 yr old class. I know the 3-4 yr old class has openings...not sure of the birthday cut-off. The school's dedication...for their newly renovated campus is this Saturday from 10-12. Come see for yourself...all the classrooms will be open and teachers available to speak with. It has the bus services, and family friendly, loving and encouraging learning environment you're looking for...a close encounter of the best kind! :)
...like a tree planted by the water.
