GST Refund for Employment Pass Holder

Post by spidernyc » Sun, 13 Aug 2006 9:22 pm

Hi All,

Is it possible/feasible to claim the 5% GST Refund if you are an employment pass holder? Say claim the GST refund at the Airport during either on your next holiday out of Singapore, or when you are returning to your home country.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Short answer = NO. Wouldn't be at all surprised if the ICA folks are cross referenced into MOM... hand them a passport and they make sure you're not an EP.

Actually they don't really check that... What they check is your ticket. If your ticket shows that you entered SG and are leaving, then you can get the GST. If it shows you're just leaving SG for a vacation and you're returning, you get into trouble. :D

Oh, or he can just plead ignorance...
Goatboy will always cherish his former goatgirl.
But the world is full of fluffier ones.

Yup. What I noticed though is that if you go to Terminal 1 early in the morning, the customs officer at the desk is reaaaaaaally grumpy and just signs anything. :D
