Activities for children in Singapore

Post by Yogiden » Sun, 30 Jul 2006 10:50 pm

Hello All,
I need some help in understanding what activities there are for my 5 year old son to do in Singapore. My husband has an opportunity to move to Singapore and my concern is can I keep my son active. I understand that he will be kept busy with school ( Australian International School) and activities like swimming lessons etc. However, what else can we do. We are use to bicycle rides, walks in the park and many other such activities.
Can those who have children let me know the good but also the very bad.

Desperate.

Thanks.

Zoo, Science Centre, Bird park, scouts, sports teams (although he may be a bit young), swimming lessons, music lessons, skating/biking along East Coast Park are just some of the possibilites. I think once you are here, your child is in school, you will find that he will be busy enough with play dates and birthday parties with school friends. He will also make friends with other children in your condo.

Tons of things kids can do

We are a british PR family and have been here for 4 years, and have a three year old son. As well as organised school activities you can.
1.Ride bikes along the East coast on proper bike tracks by the sea.
2.Ride on tracks around the nature reserves.
3.Go to Centre Stage on River Valley Road which has drama and music classes for 3years and over. It is exellent and run by Expats.
4.Use the British Club (Join)get a short trial membership and use kids facilities and classes.
5.Go to Downtown East and use the massive indoor Gym for small change.
6.Go to www.sistic.com.sg regulary and buy tickets to all the kids shows, Hi5,Kids Central,Cartoon network etc.
7.Go to the Singapore Tourist info on Orchard Road and pick up loads of flyers for kids activities.
8.United Square on the corner of Thompson and Newton Road is a specialist kids shopping centre with Kinda Golf,Music classes ie piano, violin, drums, etc.plus fencing for tots ! far to much info. good luck.

These 2 books might help: Fun In Singapore and Fun4Kids in Singapore.

The bad news (if no one else mentioned it):

It's very hot and humid every single day

Also, the expat community is very transient, so playmates come and go with great regularity.

You will be able to do all those things, other entertainment is a little limited and you can run out of fresh ideas after not so long, this is only a little island and it becomes obvious after a while, but if you make friends and have playdates with kids from AIS etc you will find that he will spend a lot of time at other kids places and swimming at condos etc. If you live in a condo it will be easier too, as he will meet other friends apart from school ones, if you live in a house it can get a little lonely unless there are other kids in your street, this is because the kids going to school live in so many different parts of Singapore, not just the one area if you know what I mean.

My kids took a lot of getting used to the weather, but now they are fine with it.

Asia Pacific travel

Post by Thaiclan » Fri, 17 Aug 2007 9:48 am

As the other posts suggest there are many activities to keep a 5 year old interested and happy.
We have a 5 year old daughter and I'd also like to add to the list Asia Pacific travel. Short trips to the surrounding countries are perfect for a small child as they aren't too arduos. By travelling to Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam etc you can also expose your child to a variety of cultures, languages, charity, wildlife and activities such as sailing, snorkelling, trekking etc.
The prices are very low for short trip and can make a weekend into an exciting adventure.
