Snakes and Spiders or anything else

Post by Patrick777 » Thu, 27 Jul 2006 5:34 pm

Looking to move to the east coast in a normal development, just wondering do I need to start telling my 2 year old to stay away from spiders or snakes?

I'm presuming snakes will only be seen out of town in bushes etc? Does singapore have any nasty snakes or spiders possibly seen in town?

I've read a few things about out of town?

Talk more of geckos, mozzies, ants, lizards and occasionally roaches. Have never seen a reptile snake (only seen the human variety) and grand-daddy long legs are about it.

Don't want to be a spoil-sport but snakes have been found as high as the 10 floor of HDB flats. That said, it would be rare to ever see one. They hear you long before you would ever see them and they are gone. Gecko's (or Chit-Chats as they are commonly called) are another story. You will either grow to love them or hate them. They do make a primary diet of mozzies however but sometime people hate cleaning up gecko crap on the walls, etc.,

There are over 100 pest control companies here in singapore so there are a lot of pests of all types.

Don't worry about gecko coz they will run away when they see you!
Snakes aren't common here. The last time I saw a snake in a public place was 30 years ago!

Its always best to train the kids to move away from any snake or spider in my opinion.
I do a 10k run through a nature reserve every week and havent seen 1 spider or snake (and I have great eyesight). However they did catch a 5 foot python at the Newton circus hawker centre 5 years ago and recent storms flushed many dead snakes out of the sewer system on a highway on the west coast !
They are here but not a problem unless you go looking hard or like sewers.
I would be more worried about all the ghost sightings on the east coast ! I have seen 100s of posts across the net about sightings on some of the developments built on land used for nasties during WW2.
If you have already moved their maybe dont start searching this.
