Hi all,
I've been to Singapore a few times, but only as a tourist, and am in need of some advice.
My girl and I are relocating to Singapore for a year or more in August. I will be attending Nanyang Tech. University and she will be working in the Woodlands area (very close to the Woodlands MRT). If I understand correctly, NTU is not connected to the MRT (and we will be without a car) and as such I will have to take the bus. We would like to keep our commute fair but don't have the faintest idea as to where to live.
Any thoughts or suggestions as to where I ought to focus my search?
Also, is used furniture easy to come by? I assume that our home will be unfurnished... We don't require luxury anything, just the essentials. Is it easy to access good quality, low cost, used furniture?
Thanks kindly to any or all who reply!

Probably an apartment within walking distance to Jurong East MRT station would be best.
See http://www.sg/explore/map.htm
The map does take some time to load.
Try shift click if you can't see the map.
For you, travel by MRT 3 stops westwards along the EW line to Boon Lay Stn followed by bus to NTU.
For her, travel by MRT 7 stops northwards along the NS line to Woodlands Stn.

Apartments close to Bukit Batok or Bukit Gombak stations are also doable except that you'll need to change line at Jurong East.
