Hired but Disapproved Work Permit
Hired but Disapproved Work Permit
I've been here in Singapore for more than a month now. Since then, I kept on looking for job. Surprisingly, one company hired me with a salary of 1,100, but the sad part is that MOM didn't approve my work permit for the reason that I am on social visit. My would- be-employer suggested to me that I might as well look for a job AGAIN with a minimum salary of 1,800 to qualify for an S Pass. What shall I do? Should I continue jobhunting here? I mean is there really ia chance for expats here to work. Please help me with a piece of your advice... Thanks

Hi! I have decided to register here coz I know that I will be able to get acquianted with nice people here and of course am hoping that I would get some help too in terms of job searching since I am new here in Singapore

Condemnable Wordings
Hi,Its difficult to get a permit in SG if you are from philipine, as philipne can only work as Singer or maid!!
How on earth can you say that Filipinas can only work as singer or maid? The lady was just asking for some encouragement and advice.. instead you humiliated her. YOu should be ashamed of your behaviour. I for one is a FIlipino and working as an Engineer here. In fact, we are in tens of thousands here in Singapore who works as medical doctors, nurses, engineers, IT professionals, banking, and education. We are in fact part of the reasons why your country's economy stays afloat.
Anne,
Its okay. Do not be discouraged by some racist in this forum. You may continue looking for a job for as long as your visa is valid. It doesnt really need to have an S pass just to work here, a working permit will do. Continue looking on jobsites and newspaper, Im sure you can find one good job for you. Dont give up and Godspeed.
Jun
thanks
Hi jun!
Thanks for the encouragement. You somehow uplift my spirit. It's really hard to be in a strange place and what makes it harder is when people you deal with are somewhat rude.
Yes, I won't give up. I know there's in store for me here.

I believe you people are not in this industry so dont try to be smart alex and criticize, unless you have a specialise degree and no of years of experience if not you will be be even be made a S-Pass. I am just stating the facts from MOM regulations. You can try to debate with MOM since you people are still living in your dreams as i only believe in reality, stop giving people FALSE hope cause that is a conman act. Since she written her pay is 1k means she is unskilled. You cannot obtain a work permit or SPASS if you are in Singapore. It can ONLY be approve if you are still in your country. IF MOM can allow anyone to work here in Singapore there wont be so many illegal workers.
Same Situation

To do her a favour, I called up Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to check out what job she can work as in Singapore. I was shocked to hear that if she doesn't has any higher education standard. Work Permit Fillipino holders can work work in Singapore as domestic maids, construction worker or singers.
And to apply for employment pass, my friend's gal need to have a degree and the job salary MUST be at least $1,800. But she doesn't have.
Look like Singapore governement is really serious in getting ONLY FOREIGN TALENTS! Is there really not enough jobs for Singaporean?

In my humble opinion, If you really want to work in Singapore, I suggest you first go back to your homeland and seek agent's help to find you a job in Singapore. All agents have their networks and methods, they might find 'other' ways to help you. After all, money $$$ do work right?

Thanks for the advice. I do have a degree, BS in Commerce major in Marketing, in one of the reputable schools in the Philippines. I have had 5 years work experience as a Bookkeeper in a government agency in the Phil.

So then, how can you make use of these information to say that "philippine people can only work as singer or maid?"Since she written her pay is 1k means she is unskilled.
Filipinos are dreamers, YES. And we also make steps to make sure we reach our dreams. Just recently, our mountainclimbers reach Mount Everest, and that is, even if we dont have snow back home. In my almost 6years here in singapore, I cannot blame you if you simply look very plain into a situation. To you (and the majority of locals here), you might just see a pen as an item to use for writing. TO us Filipinos, we look at it as a swiss knife. Think about it.. Havent you wondered Philippine is the 14th Happiest country in the world and Singapore is on the 141st?you people are still living in your dreams as i only believe in reality, stop giving people FALSE hope cause that is a conman act.

Very well said Jun. Maybe they're just threatened with the presence of foreigners here, aren't they?
