Hey,
I am heading off to Tioman Island next week and I was wondering if anybody could provide me with a little advice on where the cheapest place would be to stay near the airport or near Lavender Street (where the bus to Mersing departs from). Also looking for a 24 hour supermarket somewhere near the airport that stocks a good range of food.
One more thing! are machetes/perangs easy to buy in Singapore or Mersing? If so, where?
Any help would be appreciated!
Regards,
Matt Traver

hmm if you are living around lavender, Mustafa @ Little India is your best bet. it is off serangoon road, just behind New Park Hotel. The whole Mall is opened 24hrs - 4 levels plus 2 basement spread over 2 buildings linked by a skybridge on the 2nd level. Spent an hour just looking at their chocolate section - the sheer variety and amount of food is incredible!!!!

machete as in big knife? I take it you won't be spending your time on Tioman lying on the beach sipping cocktails then???
Sorry, I don't know if you can get them here (or even if they are allowed). Might get one in Malaysia.
Apart from Mustafas, the only 24 hr supermarket I know is Cold Storage at Katong Mall (Joo Chiat Rd/East Coast Rd), but Mustafas is probably better.
