What reason should i give ?

Post by mrs ho » Wed, 12 Jul 2006 11:51 pm

Situation :

Wasn't happy working in current company, due to jobscope wide coverage from
admin, IT co-ordinator,
secretarial support for 2x Managing Directors, manager,
sales team (40pax) travel arrangement cum project co-ordinator for moving of offices (Total of 5 storey)

My dept consists only receptionist, me and manager.
Receptionist or manager on leave, i have to cover their duties.

This thursday 3pm, i have a interview appointment.
But my manager is keeping an eyes on me going MC / Leave.
What kind of reason should i use ? MC / Leave / Un-paid Time off

Please help to give me suggestion what kind of excuse should i use.
I am afraid if i am going to take MC, my manager will be crossed. Coz Monday i am on MC already (Really fall sick)
Can she sack me base on MC issue ?

If you are not sick, why would consider using MC? That is illegal. If I found one of my employees who was on MC without just reasons I'd both get the Doctor who issued the Cert in trouble and probably fire you as well.

If you have accrued annual leave, use it as you do not have to give a reason (you may however have to give advance request to get the day off.) Or, take unpaid emergency leave if you have that ability in your company (But your employer has a right to know why - if you lie to your employer and are found out that would be grounds to get rid of you as well). So it looks to me that taking a day of annual leave might be the best approach from a legal aspect.

Good luck with the interview.

With the infamous Disclaimer on, I say use the MC for the interview.

try to arrannge the interview session after working hour.
Some interviewer/company understand and willing to wait you.

If not, better take anual leave..since u really plan to leave, so don worry what ur manager think.

good luck

Be fair to your employer, if it's a case of falling ill, you can get an MC, if it's for personal reasons, then request for unpaid leave or utilise your annual leave from your employer. As mentioned earlier by SMS.

It's ugly when you get caught by your employer during working hours when you're supposed to be on MC, but dressed neatly in an office attire.

hey, its time to escape!

I think you'd better take leave or un-paid (if required). Good luck!

It's best to take leave actually, but I think only you can really decide, based on your understanding of your company and manager. Good luck for the interview!

Tell your manager you got some personal errands to run adn that you need a couple of hours. Tell them that you come back to the office and make up the hours later.
