hi,
investing in stock takes time to unfold. basically, there are 2 types of activities in stock mkt ie. investment and speculating which are long term and short term respectively.
Investment in growth or blue chips will earn good dividend at the same time apreciation of value but the time needed is average 5 yrs or more. Speculation in penny stocks (usually) involves quick entry/exit and profit from short term fundamental movement.
Most people lost monies in stock without first accessing own risk capacity and appetite. Neverthelss, knowing how to preserve capital and using it smartly for profitable trade is most vital for long term survival. This si my 17 yrs in the stock, futures and FX industry. Hope it helps you in finding your direction and goal.
Cheers and happy trading.

After investing in North American equity market and trading FX for 4 years, I totally agreed with what daryl462 said. You will be surprised how you could outperform most of the investors by spending some time studying about the companies that you have interest in. Buy into companies with strong fundamentals and keep them for long term or even forever! DO NOT IGNORE THE POWER OF COMPOUND INTEREST!!!daryl462 wrote:hi,

It's not risky to buy securities at a fraction of what they are worth!
Read Warren Buffett Way, Warren Buffett Portfolio, Buffettology, Peter Lynch's books...you may have to modify your strategy a bit to fit the Singapore market...
Do not trust others when come to stock picking, unless he is a value investor...do your own homework...
