I am going to be coming voer with a 40ft container and I'm wondering whether to bring a sofa over with me or buy one in Singapore. A decent leather modern european sofa x2 in the Uk will cost me around $3K Singapore dollars what is it going to cost me in Singapore for equivalent? Bear in mind I don't think Ikea sofa's are half the quality of the ones I could get in the UK?
If you say bring from the UK would you say the same about all furniture?

I am thinking of moving back to Singapore from UK too.
I will definitely bring my furniture back with me because you pay a premium for european furniture I seem to recall. Nothing is cheap with it reseambles European products (unless it looks frumpy/low quality).
Ikea is not my first choice either!
Just out of curiousity. Which removal company are you engaging for your relocation?
My father works in a international logistic company in Singapore but I haven't ask him for assistance yet.
Regards,
Jacqueline

I'm not sure to be fair it's all being sorted by my company I just pack my bags and leave everything else to them! 8)
I can't wait to be honest. I'm thinking of taking just a standard issue DFS sofas to Singapore with me because they are cheap and alot better than Ikea! 8)
Good luck with you move I hope it all goes OK!

Patrick, I strongly recommend you nip to DFS. IME, quality in Singapore = Moran from Melbourne which can cost about S$10k for a sofa. Cheap and disposable = Ikea. In between is mostly very modern, modular seating and a lot of it rubbish.
I virtually gave away my lovely leather sofas because I was worried they'd go mouldy on the boat (that IS one consideration) and I've always regretted it.

Guys, the freight for transporting and clearance in Singapore ain't cheap. I've tried importing a ballchair over and just the clearance i spent SIN$400 not including the freight. As you still hafta engage a freight forwarder to clear your cargo (import permit etc).

I'm bringing my whole contents over from the UK. I just purchased a really nice 2+3 seater sofa's brown leather European style direct from China

for $3000. Even if I could get them a little cheaper in Singapore it's one off the list so to speak. I've been told I won't pay any taxes on my house contents shipped from the UK?

Not sure about the taxes, did the freight company said that to you? Because definitely you can't escape from the import clearance! unless everything are already in the bill. =)

And hey $3000, isn't that expensive? I doubt singaporeans would wanna spend that kind of money on sofas but then again, you never know?
If you don't mind spending a little bit more, it could save you lotsa time/trouble/man power.

Never heard of this brand.
I just get adult size tables and chairs because they grow out too fast, waste of money to buy kids sizes.
