Urgent Advice Needed

Post by Rajkumar » Tue, 27 Jun 2006 2:34 pm

:???: :???: :???:
Hi,

I have been offered a job in Singapore. At present I have a good Job in Bangalore and am having a Very good Salary by indian standards of >45K per month

My monthly package offered is SGD4000.Is it worth relocating for this amount. The job is a sort of Permanent contract wherein I will be working through a company for a different company. Is this system widely prevalent in Singapore

Further I would like anyone of you to advice me of the cost of living over there for a couple of two. Will this suffice.I'm not a spendthrift and would be interested in having a decent furnished accomodation being a main criteria.

Please excuse me for such a long mail.Your advice/comments could alter the course of my life
Regards,
Rajkumar

That's about the same amount i am earning. If you are very careful with your spendings and are ok with living in an HDB flat (cramped, but usually clean and decently furnished) then 4k should be ok. But it would be best if your partner can get some work as well (nanny?).

Well, the contract jobs are agency-type jobs and can be found in a lot of places, though they're not too common.

A sample breakdown:
Rent - 1000 SGD per month (give or take 200 either way)
Utilities - water, electricity: 100 SGD a month. More if you use a lot of water and airconditioner a lot.
Cable TV, cellphone bills: 150-300 a month depending on usage
Transportation: maybe about 100SGD per month (no taxis, just bus and train, a back and forth trip every day, per person)
Food: up to you, really... But let's just assume that you and your partner eat at a hawker center 3x a day, with a normal meal and drink:
5 SGD x2 x3 x30 = 900 SGD per month (likely to be much lower if you cook a lot of food at home)
Then figure in about 250 SGD a month for income tax.

There are lots of contract jobs out there but looking for specialised skillsets. If you are good in a particular area, you will generally find that your pay goes up. So for consulting / Projects contracts, if you have specialist skills in derivatives, engineering, risk management or IAS-39 you will be sorted.

Other than that I think if you are an IT guy, you will be able to find support work but these agencies taking you across from India probably make hell lot from you. If they paid you 4k then they must be charging at least 6 -10k on your employers!
All I know ... is that I know nothing.

Normally, you'll have all the basics. Oven, washing machine, TV, beds, sofa, fridge.
