PDAs - basically they don't yet make what I want, so it's all a compromise: size, stability, features, keyboard, smartphone vs. WM5.0, etc.
I had been waiting for the Nokia e61 but have heard bad reviews, and now that it's finally out, have gone off it. So I'm back to the same old choices - some PDAs, some SmartPhones.
Am keen to hear reviews on:
- Dopod 818
- Dopod 838
- European Dopod 838 / O2 XDA Trion / HTC Hermes (released in Europe, not here, but available at some shops - newer than the 838, faster processor, upgraded, nicer shell)
- Nokia e61
- Motorola MotoQ
- Sony Ericsson 990
- Dopod StrTrk
I know to stay away from the O2 Atom, and the O2 Mini is past its prime, not interested in the HP 6900 series, or O2s in general based on too many reports of instability and bugs, Treos are a bit big and bulky, the Dopod 900 is great but too damn big. Also hear the new HP 6828 is buggy too.
Have heard only good things about the 818 and 838, thought the 838 seems like last-year's model. I an vacillating between the 818 and Euro 838, but that Nokia e61 looks really cool. That damn MotoQ is cool too but no WiFi.
There will be a whole slew of cool gear out by EOY, but I'm not waiting that long.
Yes, Taiwanese HTC make many of the units that are redistributed by Dopod, Qtek, Vodaphone, O2, Orange, Verizon, etc., the HP by a Chinese manufacturer.
(note I posted this same query on another board, this is to share feedback with those not on it, see the differences in responses, etc.)
