approx. salary for a Sr. Travel Consultant

Postby taikoo1 » Thu, 08 Jun 2006 11:46 am

Dear Members,

We will be relocating to Singapore soon. My wife is currently working in Hong Kong as Sr. Travel Consultant. In order for her to apply for a Sr. Travel Consultant job in Singapore, the ads are asking for expected salary.

Appreciate if any one could give us a rough idea on expected salary for an IATA qualified Sr. Travel Consultant with nearly 10 years of expereience.

Thanks

What I know is that the basic is not high, but the consultants get to lead tours out of singapore if their sales are good, and they get commission/tips from these tour leading assignments. Altogether, it is possible to bring back abt 3k, according to my ex colleague who is a travel consultant with one of the bigger travel agencies in singapore.

travel industry here is highly fragmented made up of many small agencies either family owned or jointly owned by a few shareholders. These companies would not pay much.

Typically a travel consultant earns SGD 850 - 950 per month when they start off. Increments are about 5-10% max... I have a friend in one such agency specialising in corporate travel arrangements. Been on the job for 20 over years there and her pay is nowhere near SGD 3k...

I am sure there are anomalies but not for the general public. if you are IATA qualified, a better way to make a bit more buck would be to join travel planners specialising in huge organisations.

T3 travel solutions, Carlson Wagonlit, AMEX Travel planners etc... i think they may pay more but do not expect anything astronomical tho...

hope this helps...
All I know ... is that I know nothing.
