social visit visa / multiple re-entries?

Post by mslise » Tue, 06 Jun 2006 7:41 pm

Hiya all.

Firstly- great forums. Hopefully this hasnt really been asked before. I've had a look at the immigration pages but haven't really found the answer I'm looking for.

Basically, I want to use Singapore as a base for a year to travel to nearby countries. (My boyfriend is living there on an employment pass). I think when I come in (I'm Australian, if that matters) they can give me either 14/30/90 day social visit pass. My question is, am I likely to have any trouble if I'm in singapore for a month, out travelling for a month, back in for a month or two etc? What governs whether you get 14/30/90 days? So far I've visited twice and been stamped in for 90 days both times.

Alternatively, is there any other type of visa/pass I could consider?

Very grateful for any information! :D

Hey!

I think they give you what you want, don't they?
You leave Singapore after a certain time, you come in again after a certain time and you get 90 days every time!
So just wonderful!Be happy and relax...
As long as you are not suspicious to them they won't make any trouble...

They record exactly what you are doing...

So if you don't go to JB to get another 14 days
every time an hour before your visa expires there is no need to worry...

I know a German guy who is doing it for 4 months now without any problems although he is just going to JB every 14 days!hahahaha

As an australian you should be able to get 90 days each time you fly in but it is up to the immigration officer. Or if you have had a long term partnership before your boyfriend moved here, you could apply for a Long Term Social Visit Pass. Bring documentary proof of the relationship eg joint propert ownership or rental papers, joint bank a/cs or bills. Your boyfriend's employer and the Australian High Commission should be able to help.

Hi,

I knew someone who did that for a while, but after collecting a few pages of re-entry stamps, he was refused the very last time and he had to pack his bags; given a certain period to leave singapore.

I can imagine the immigration officers being suspicious if you do this for a long time, it's up to them to grant you the duration of your stay; they can easily give you or not. It's better to apply for a long term visa...

two cents worth... 8-) 8-)

Thanks for the info- I was thinking about the long term social visit visa, but the question I cant seem to answer is how long is this visa granted for? Can you leave and re-enter the country on it? Could I apply for it from Singapore? Any info would be great- I've checked out the immigration pages but just cant seem to nail these questions.
Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Here's more info: you should have all your questions answered in this website.

http://app.ica.gov.sg/serv_visitor/soci ... it_app.asp

It doesn't state how long the long term visas are for and you definitely need your bf to sponsor you....
You can apply from singapore as it seems.

Good Luck. :D :D
