Difference between SQ and Emirates

Post by Windy » Tue, 06 Jun 2006 12:58 pm

Hi to all (newbie here)

Would like to post some questions which are not clearly stated in the forum, before embarking a flying career. Wonder any kind soul could aid me here.

Firstly.. The websites states that for SQ, your pay is about S$3500, and for Emirates is about USD$1600 ( approx S$2.6k), so why is that in the forum there are people saying that Emirates pay better? If i am not wrong, all are inclusive of allowance. (as stated in their respective websites) Are there other hidden allowance that no one is supposed to mention?

understand that mentioning of pay is kind of a taboo.. perhaps those who are willing to share can PM me if they are not comfortable quoting in the forum.

Secondly, does anyone knows why Emirates training is only 5 weeks and SQ is 4 mths? The difference of approx 2 mths plus, is quite a huge. which will also mean starting to fly earlier.

Hope the experienced "oldbirds" can give their 2 cents worth of advice and knowledge to this "lost child" whom cannot find the above answers in the forum.

Appreciate it :D

Yes, Emirates and Cathay Pacific and i heard, JAL's pay are more better than SIA.

I think in the advertisement, it was exaggerated. Emirates' allowance is high, as far as i know.

my friend was in SQ for 1 year and then just moved to Emirates. Her training was also a few weeks, as she said for ex-crew they get shorter training. She also mentioned that she goes to more places compared to SQ and the pay is higher

hi.. SQ pay of $3500 is inclusive of allowances.. Anyway, it's only a min amount that they state. Actually every month they take home about 4k and for steward will be more cos they have more long haul flights. As for emirates, inclusive of allowances, the pay is close to 5k. And yap, their training is 5 weeks only, why shorter? i do not know but guess it's because their 5 weeks are intensive training. :)

JAL's pay will increase the longer you've been in the company. They will offer you more long haul flights. Eventually yr pay will be higher or the same as SIA.
EMirates stated pay does not include allowance, unlike SIA's. As for benefit terms Emirates provide you with lodging, so I guess you'll get to save much more? SIA is one of the lowest paid airlines is compared to high end ones such as cathay, emirates, etc. . .
As for the matter of pay, you still need to consider on your expenditure lifestyle, cost of living in that particular country and lots more. So there might be difference in the pay but when you take the rest into calculation it will be more or less the same
