Scarring from mole removal

Post by bana » Fri, 02 Jun 2006 1:18 pm

I'm going to remove one of my protuding moles.. my dermatologist said there could be scarring like a chicken pox scar.. He is going to use CO2 laser to remove my mole completely from the root, no stitiches required. My qn which of the method i.e. Laser or traditional excision + stitching will produce less scarring?

that's a weird questino...because since you've actually consulted a dermatologist, he should be able to give you professional advice on that one.

If you have a large mole, I'd personally go for laser. Seems more effective and thorough to me...

You can also check with your derma if he has any whitening creams available to lighten your scar.

Laser seems cleaner too. My friend had a huge mole on her face the size of a man's thumbnail. She went for laser and her face looks real good now. No scarring...

Fear not! You're the patient here! If you want to change your mind about the surgery, let the doctor know!

You have your rights as the patient and he cannot force you to do something you're not sure about.

Laser doesn't entail stitches as it doesn't involve slicing open the skin.
It's just burning away the surface layer of the mole.

I'im very sure there's no stitching involved. Best to check with your doctor though... For a professional opinion ;)

Laser excision may cause a slight crater to your skin. It is a bit like a chicken pox mark but hardly visible. (Especially so for larger moles, not smaller moles..) Painless. :)
