Ah, I get it now. It didn't apply to me as I had no new pm(s) and all of mine seem intact when the crash occured hence the confusion.

Bubbles, I'm lost here. What do you mean?
Hmm.. there are other doubts in her question isn't it?

Let me make this clear to everyone.

We wouldn't have emulate a server crash across the whole website because of a conflict in the forum. The missing data (more than 100 posts, 30 new users), business enquiries lost, hours of website going offline are causing far greater damage to us.

If anyone is thinking we are using this as an excuse for deleting posts, why should we? We can simply ban/remove those instigating users.

Common sense is not so common after all. [-(

There might be a possibility of a Denial Of Service attack, we will investigate for sure.

Hay Pal.

One of my posts from the Strictly Speaking forum was lost. Have to think hard about what I wrote as I had a little bit of a brain wave. Is it possible for those lost posts to be located? (No pressure by the way as I know you are busy) I would hate to give my brain a good work out remembering and re-writing my post, if it can be avioded. :D

As some of you have noticed, the database server crash on 30th May 1130pm and hence the forum is unusable. We managed to restore it on 31st May 1040am.

A moment ago at 930pm, we encounter another error and I have to restart the server to recover it. Thereafter, all posts and messages from 30th May 1130pm to 31st May 930pm were lost. This may be due to the corruption of the database.

This is the first time we have encountered such a problem. It may be related to last night's problem, which is a compatibility issue between the auto update of latest cpanel version, php and MySQL. This morning, we restored the server by updating the php, MySQL to the latest version.

We will try to recover all the data that has been lost and will thoroughly check for bugs or incorrect settings.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Regards,

Pal

Pal mate!

I was curious as to why you had to state that the crash was not due to conflict and it was indeed a crash. Did someone actually accuse you of causing a deliberate crash to delete old posts (no one posted such an accusation so I presume you got a PM)? You have got to be kidding, mate!

A server crash is a server crash. If someone has a dumb idea that you caused it because of some arguments in the forum has to be come from a wrong branch of evolution. Being in the technology field and encountering server crashes, I would not even think of asking such a loaded question. At least you are lucky that the entire DB did not go south which means to do a install and setup from scratch. And that would mean loosing ALL of the forum members. Not only a pain but a major headache! I have been there and done that and would not wish it on my worst enemy.

But glad you got things up and running even though you blew your night away. Hey! its not unusual for blowing all night to bring the system back up. In the end, this is what I do. Blame Microsoft and George Bush! ** personal opinion only **

Good Luck!

Nothing wrong with the PM system.

BTW, we had disabled 2 members's PM due to abuse.

Pal, how can one "abuse the PM system"? And even more important, how would you know what people PM to eachother.

PM stands for Personal Message. What members on this forum write in PM's to eachother is clearly not meant for you to read.

It just shows your total disrespect for the privacy of members, as well as your state of mind, which to me looks paranoid.
